HMD Skyline runs Geekbench, confirms Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset

The design of the Skyline evokes memories of the old Nokia Lumia phones.

The Underdog, 19 Jun 2024HMD should just turn it in. No one is going to buy this e-waste.Low-brow childish comment that doesn't understand smartphone market. HMD is still around because they sell millions of phones a year globally. their sales don't lie. you may not personally like their phones (neither do I) but to call it "e-waste" is just immature. the vast majority of phones sold globally are not flagships. they aren't the end all be all of smartphone releases.

Clean android european company with support vs your recomandation....hmmm. i'd go for hmd all the way, a bit more here and a bit more there are scraps when we talk "full package".

In Europe you can get x2 Poco X6 that have the same cpu for the price of one HMD Skyline.

Also has better screen and fast charger. While also get 3 OS updates and 4 years of security.
As we saw with Nokia branding they didnt deliver much on updates so why would HMD be any different. Also this X6 be smaller phone as it is basically with screen edge to edge with no bezel while this HMD have a lot of bezel and then plus the frame

Anonymous, 19 Jun 2024The cameras are a bit odd. 108mp feels premium and decent (... moreUltrawide cameras are pointless, I have never chosen an ultrawide image over the primary lens or telephoto for macro, even on my Pixel 8 Pro which has a 50MP ultrawide that can shoot in full res and RAW.

I think the last time I used an ultrawide meaningfully was the Nokia 8.3 because it used the Omnivision OV12D which is a 16:9 sensor (I think also used on the Honor V30 Pro).

HMD have started using what they call 'capture fusion' for ultrawide capture, so the centre of the frame uses the main lens and is stitched with the ultrawide image. That way they can use lower res ultrawide sensors and still get a sharp image, but it doesn't work in night mode.

I agree macro cameras are cheap and should be scrapped entirely. I'm also not a fan of ISOCELL sensors and would rather HMD used Omnivision if they can't afford Sony.

With those huge bezels/frames there is no need for a selfie cam punch hole in the display. Front cam could have been easily fitted in one corner of that bezel.

Isn't this a similar price to the Moto Edge 50 Fusion, which also uses the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2? And yes, this is not as overpriced as the Xperia 10 VI.

The cameras are a bit odd. 108mp feels premium and decent (although it's never about the megapixels and hardly anyone uses the Samsung sensor), but then an 8mp ultra wide which seems low and then the standard useless 2mp macro which nobody uses. Then 32mp on the front. For the money it should be expected to perform but they should have binned the macro and traded up the ultra wide.

If the rumoured prices are true, this is actually competitively priced for the segment in European markets, especially if it has user-repairability and parts available.

Anonymous, 19 Jun 2024Hope it will have removable batteries, otherwise DoAIt will likely have what HMD will call 'Gen2 repairability'. Their current phones (HMD Pulse series, Nokia G42 and G22) have Gen1, which includes official parts such as display, battery and charging port available from iFixit for 5 years, plus guides, and warranty will not be voided if repairs are made.

I expect this device, and definitely the upcoming 'Fusion', will have improved repairability with more modularity and simpler repairs.
