Marco M, 09 Jul 2024Essentially all smartphone UIs of today are the same, give ... moreDude. Just check Xiaomi's UI (and other Chinese manufacturers designs). Its a straight rip off from iOS. Also, if Xiaomi did everything first, why do they always wait till Apple does it? Also, why don't they go and try to copy Google's Pixel Skin or Samsung's One UI?

You can say all smartphones have the same rectangular design plus App layout. But there is a limit to the similarities. No one says that Google/Samsung and Apple have the same look. Because obviously they have their own distinct theme (which is easily recognizable)

And I'm not talking about customization here. Its well known that Android does that better. That way I can customize my Phone to look any way I like. What I'm talking about is Xiaomi's default theme, which is a total iOS ripoff.

Also, Xiaomi sells cheap low end/mid range phones. That's what they are known for. No one in the right mind (general populace) will pay 1,000$ for a Xiaomi when they can get a Samsung, Google or Apple device at the same price. Techbros are a different case, but when it comes to the everyday Joe, there's no question.

You click an icon to open an app. You have a pull down menu (quick settings/control center) - which came first to Android btw. etc. Sure, some have more aggressive icon themes than others, and some offers multiple choice during the first time setup. Such as Xiaomi offering between Classic and Limitless during first setup, then loads more in the themes.

The main difference is, as always, that android offers (much) more customization.
Especially in some of the UI's such as Xiaomi's HyperOS, but also others.
You want app drawer, or no. You decide. Vertical scrolling app drawer or horizontal. Pages, or scrolling. Automatic alignment of apps or free placement. Number of pages of your home screen etc. Ready made themes to customize home screen, app drawer, or even your own individual tweaks for whatever part such as icon shapes, text fonts, colors or even no names for apps as part of the UI. And so on and so forth.

Whereas IOS is fairly limited. Some stranger than others, such as the screen orientation lock, can only lock in portrait (vertical), not landscape. At least maybe with the upcoming ios 18 their users might actually be allowed to move apps on the home screen as they please. Only 17 years after android. . .

So when HyperOS has significantly more features than ios, and have features that came to Xiaomi phones and Android years before ios, then saying that Xiaomi copies ios doesn't make much sense. The default classic theme is just that, a classic theme where all icons are rounded squares, like the login icons in Windows XP, and all the buttons and the windows themselves for that matter. A classic UI style. Personallly I've opted for the Limitless style since it came, as it for me is easier to separate the apps from each other and I get to see each apps unique design. But the thing is, with Xiaomi and HyperOS, we ge to choose for ourselves - even without resorting to any 3rd party stuff.

All types of new features that consume more power like the 120hz screen on higher resolution as example.

About hardware i dont talk about it being defected or something. It's just different hardware components used. Different motherboard and different components on it by different brands.

It's like desktop computers run different in a game while same specs like same cpu and gpu with same amount of ram and ssd storage but are from different brands parts. On paper is same but in reality it's different.

Try to put 15.6" gaming laptop on your puny little notebook bag, it won't fit! But if you get a bigger gaming backpack it will fit!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not throwing any hate at Xiaomi or smth. They used to be the one that had the best battery life, but not anymore, at least in my experience.

The most annoying thing about HyperOS is its really strict RAM usage. Apps, specifically browsers, reload the moment you switch out. All that even though I have 12GB that never gets full. (I might've fixed this with the memory extension feature, it doesn't happen anymore. I originally thought it was a Firefox issue.)

That said, if Oppo ever makes a "compact" flagship I'm moving over. Even outdated ColorOS 11.1 is better for my usage because of the little things that make it more usable. My old Oppo is severely outdated with the SD665 however.
