      phone basically just crops like how you would zoom in photo by pinching it in gallery
      that means you only have half of the pixels if you zoom in 2x and don't have a secondary telephoto lens
      so 50mp sensor become 12.5mp for 2x digital zoom, and 5.5mp for 3x zoom.

        even if you don't want to change lens there's zoom lens/variable focal length lenses that go from 16-70mm just like phones but it's pure optic instead of sensor and cropping trickery

                Good that mid range phones are at last getting proper telephoto cameras instead of 2x or even useless macro etc cameras.

                Then Apple will release their new iPhone SE in 2024-2025 with one camera and price of 399-499 dollars/eu when competition will have decent ultrawide and even decent telephoto cameras in addition to decent main camera with similar price.

                        But I heard it's Snapdragon X and new Snapdragon 4 for cheap 5G phones though. Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 is still just a rumor, only the internal name is known.

Every use by phone users are mostly social media posting, and those have horrible JPEG compression. That means you can overlook details and noise, but not the colour. That's why phones have this weird oversaturated look to them, to compensate the horrible detail and noise.
