It's called crop factor, smaller sensor = shorter focal have the same crop factor (magnification/zoom) as bigger sensor = longer focal length.
Let's assume your example, Xiaomi 14 Ultra with 1/2.51" sensor and 120mm **35mm equivalent**:
1. Crop factor = 35mm diagonal / sensor diagonal
= 43,2 / 7.19
= 6
2. Actual focal length = 35mm equiv. focal length / crop factor
= 120 / 6
= 20mm actual focal length!

That means your tiny widdle phone's lens is only 2cm long!

David 040882, 15 Jul 2024That's about what anyone would understand from your pointsNot at all, read again. I'm talking about the possibility of easily switching from an ultra wide angle to an increasingly efficient telephoto lens thanks to the increase in the size of the sensors. By adding: better autonomy, better readability of the screen in direct sunlight, rapid correction of photos and simplified sharing.

besides REAL camera can do much more than that, like 1600mm, with the same trick as phones' digital cropping you can do 6400mm (or 266x magnification from 24mm) with 32mp sensor you'll get 8mp picture

what's next? you're claiming your phone's camera is better than NASA's telescope?

This Rheinland certification seems like another scam. They certify high speed charging Batteries, and their fine print reada that battery life is for much lower wattage charging.
I am guessing resolution certification would have some similar strange fineprints too.

I hope it will share the same fate as Oppo Reno 11. I'm sure they will change the processor or cameras in the 14 series. 14 pro will have macro instead of telephoto, and the pro plus variant will downgrade from periscope telephoto to just telephoto

No smartphone camera will ever reach DSLR-level quality because it's simply not possible, due to the enormous difference in sensor size. There are ILCs that have sensors half the size of a smartphone. How can then a 1" sensor, being the biggest camera sensor size on smartphones at the moment, beat that? Not possible.

The next models 1/1.95". They have the ability to go from true ultra wide angle to telephoto without changing lenses and are brighter. In addition, smartphone battery life is better, screen brightness is better, and quick editing capabilities are more convenient.

Smartphones have small sensors, usually don't have zoom (Sony has, but Sony is not a top camera phone).
Cameras offer different lenses, fixes and zoom. For example, Fujifilm has 18-300mm zoom (27-450mm 35mm equivalent). A lot of bariants, like 200-800, 100-400, 70-300, 50-400, 800 and 1200mm!
When you zoom on your phone, you don't use all sensor.
When you say about 240mm, if you mean Samsung, it's very small 1/3.5" sensor. Just compare it with APS-C and think about it. Or try to take photos at night.
I have S23U and I know what is it. Gcam helps Samsung, but gcam can't make sensor bigger. There is no magic.

Phones can draw pictures with AI, but cameras take real photos, without AI-bokeh and other things.
Even micro 4/3 is dead, 1" and smaller sensors can't beat APS-C in quality.
