Weekly poll: is the HMD Skyline your next phone?

21 July 2024
Nokia N9 fans took notice, the hot pink colorway drew even more attention. And it's easy to repair too? Unfortunately, there is a catch.

Anton .el PAPI., 21 Jul 2024I don't understand the advertising towards the female ... moreNo one is advertising this as a girl's phone lol. You think pink = girl? How fragile is your masculinity? That ain't even true pink, just slightly pinker rose gold.
And your argument about girls not repairing their phone is moot. Fact is, most people I've seen in my history of environmental volunteering, most of them were female, and they are the biggest customer of Fairphone. It's a fact that more women cares about their stuff than dudes, many of them choose to sew, mend, and repair their or their family ripped clothes, contrast with guys just throwing it away and buying a new one. If you have that kind of view about what's "girly" then you should had been raised in a trad family where your mother does that right? If you have that kind of stereotype then you should also believe girls have better hand dexterity and should be more suited to phone repair, this guy is pure MAGA ragebait.

It's just a regular AOSP smartphone with the same hardware and body and curved screen corners fitted into a odd looking square-ish frame. Boring & BS

Anton .el PAPI., 21 Jul 2024I don't understand the advertising towards the female ... moreThat's how hmd always advertised.

I like the phone and would buy. But the only thing stopping me from buying is the snapdragon 7s gen 3. I mean I am not paying 500 usd to just get a phone with the snapdragon 7s gen 3

Honestly its not a bad phone but for that price there is lot of better phones out there and this one aint available in Slovakia yet.

I don't understand the advertising towards the female audience of Hmd. No woman will buy this, mostly young women want or have an iPhone or a Samsung and in LATAM, Samsung, iPhone, and Motorola! I don't know because of the bias towards women why no one will try to change the battery on their own.

mrfone, 21 Jul 2024I would certainly consider it. Shame about the the updates ... moreFor flagship, 4-5 update reasonable because spec still capable with new OS but for midrange maybe outdated spec to handle new OS.

Also at £300 you get 8+ Gen 1 powered Vivo IQOO Neo 7 Pro, Nothing Phone 2a & OnePlus 11R. But at same price, you get POCO F6 with 8s Gen 3. Now imagine this phone becoming joke at £400-500 price. Fair to India unfair to World:( :'(

"Anyway, the microSD slot and headphone jack are a welcome sight"

I don't think it has a headphone jack. But GSMarena could easily clear this up by showing us photos of the top and bottom of the phone. Then we'll know for sure.

                              Nop

I had a Nokia Lumia 1020 back in the day and loved it so the design appeals, I particularly dislike the rounded edges of modern day smartphones which cause some of the picture to be cut off in all 4 corners of the screen but £500 is a fair chunk of money and I would only consider it if it rocks a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or 3 processor. I'm also reluctant to chuck big money on something that has built in obsolescence, but if the battery is replaceable I'm in. .

I would certainly consider it. Shame about the the updates being so minimal.

This is just the start, my decision is final is just to wait for Skyline 2 with stronger SoC from either Snapdragon or Dimensity, add a headphone jack, more storage and ram and keep the price.
