The same cpu/gpu as the US GS3 on a 480p screen will fly, the form is awesome for non-adapters to fence sit with AND the resolution/proc/android version combo will be more compatible than any other odd-end android devices.
For anyone that still needs the form factor, but wants a bit of versatility and fun as well, this should be great. Too bad it will probably never see a large release. :(

There's no better qwerty slider smartphone than the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro (MK16) In short terms, there's nothing this one can't do that most high end of today can. I've had it almost a year and it's working even better than the first day Haha n.n

But with no qwerty keyboard is anyone g... moreMost people actually would still write quicker with T9 or equivalent, or multi tapping, than they do on a onscreen qwerty, it's just expected that people writes quicker on full qwerty, and the fact that those touchscreen keyboards are not hardware keys is simply ignored. Qwerty does not even make sense on touchscreens, as it's quite a bit harder to find the keys than a-z layout. And you cant really use touch/type method, but you pretty much have to be able to touch-type to actually have some idea of where on the screen you will gind the appropriate key even when looking and typing on a qwerty layout.
But personally I would much prefer a qwerty slider over a flip phone.
But there are ever kind of person out there, and many prefers this formfactor.
The problem is that that these kind of phones don't come with top specs (just candybar touchscreens do, these days).
Of course there wont be any high end models to attract the customers to different form factors (even the fact that there is a high end version helps sales at lower end) and thus they will never catch on and become trendy again.
I guess we have to blame the slim and large screen trend. Above 4.3-4.5 its near impossible to make a thicker phone that still fits the average user's hand, and it has to be thicker if it's a fliphone, or slider.

Brilliant for Samsung to do this. They should go one better and make a bar factor device with same specs but bigger display like the BB Q10. Would probably finish off BB but then again, it's a cruel world.

Not for gaming for sure. Good to gift to grandpas, perhaps. Anyway to much CPU for it. Maybe is an excuse to sell it a bit expensive. But I'd never buy it.
Currently, besides my smartphones, I have a clamshell style phone: LG A255. It's very nice and serves well, good to take it to rough environments n.n Typing on it was so easy and fast, I even could type without seeing the keyboard, even without seeing the screen :D Ha
Maybe I reconsider buying it if I see it live. Haha

What's the good reason, please tell me!
Manufactors by some reason shifted all their focus to candy bar tochscreen phones.
Not because they were all better than sliders, clamshells in all ways, but simply to make specs sound amazing with the thickness beeing next to nothing. Thats is the one and only reason. All formfactors could be equipped with toucscreens, even Samsungs strange but cool sreries of MP3-lookalike twist phones.
Clamshell and Sliders (both qwerty and num pad sliders) had the advantage of physical keys. Most people would actually still be typing faster with T9 (or equivalent input method) than they do with qwerty touchscreens keyboards.
Also with physical keys there is no keyboard to hide what's on the display. I find it quite annoying actually, that when you bring up the keyboard, you no longer see the same screen... SOmetimes you need to scroll to see the text you are replying to, since not both text input, last message and keyboard are not seen at the same time, even if you saw what you needed before you brought up the keyboard.
With some smart software it can actually guess what field you are trying to write in so you can just start typing without having to touch that field. Or you could use directional keys to get there (keep in mind that with a touchscreen plus keypad, the directional keys don't have to work as pointer and can simply jump clickable objects on the screen, leaving the navigation to touch and quick jumping to directional keys).
However, expect the screen to be a simple LCD with pretty bad specs.
Expect the camera to be quite bad.
Expect CPU/GPU to be mediocre at the best.
So of course it wont seem that appealing to tech-geeks, or sales personal and thus it wont be hyped/recommended so it wont sell.
But dont judge a formfactor because the unispired products released with it.
I quite like the idea of different form factors.
I even like numpad candybar phones with touchscreen.
And I very much like slider qwerty phones. And I kinda like the design of qwerty candybar phones (but they are not that practical as they have to be wide to fit a decent keyboard and then they wont fit your pockets).
I liked the communicator style phones of the past.
I've liked some flip phones as well, certainly some flip and twist phones. And Samsung had a concept running Palm OS, with the graffitti pad, that was super cool back in the days (but then Palm updated the software that allowed on screen input and the concept lost it's coolness going in to production).
I'm all for different form factors... and considering GSMarenas petition for smaller high end phones, one should think they would be too.

thank you Samsung, I've been waiting for a phone like this. I still prefer hard buttons over all touch interfaces, but touch interfaces have benefits too. producing a phone with the best of both worlds is a godsend.
people commenting here that this is a dumb idea don't realize other people have different needs or preferences from themselves.
I appreciate Samsung giving something for everyone out there.

this is not the first Android clamshell phone from Samsung.
they already have Android clamshell like Samsung GT-B9120, Samsung SCH-W2013, Samsung SCH-W999, and many more.
unfortunately, those clamshell phones are all Chinese-only / Korean-only phones.
i hope this new Samsung Galaxy Folder will make it to international market.
i will definitely buy one for sure.
cause i'm a big fan of clamshell phones, but it's hard to find decent clamshell phones nowadays...

Nice looking phone. But with no qwerty keyboard is anyone going to buy this? The virtual keyboard must have keys so small even the little guy from Game of Thrones can't use it.
