AnonD-77186, 17 Jul 2013Now u see, what i was talking about on previous article. ... moreAs i may guess the idea is that 8mp at 16:9 resolution will be such good quality that you won't need 15mp 16:9 option. The sensor physically is able to take it, but it's being about software tweaks, so i believe similars of Nokia's camera pro will come

Looks like a fake. As the jump in resolution is from 8MP to 20MP, usually there is an intermediary step like 12 or 13 MP

Who the hell is watching photos on a TV or PC in 2013 in 4:3, leaving empty stripes at sides.
If you let your TV stretch the image from 4:3 to 16:9 everything looks fat.
So 20MP in this Honami is useless in 4:3. I am never gonna use it, like i didnt use it on my Xperia Arc 8mp 4:3, i was shooting in 6mp 16:9 allways.

the pic seems fake:
1. why MP jump from 8MP to 20MP?
2. why the reflection of the light onto the screen is only appear on the half (left hand side) and not on the MP popup menu?

AnonD-99419, 17 Jul 2013You are correct but I think that the camera of honami is a ... moreWell the thickness comparisson is irreleavant. The sensor is small and it has no zoom, that's how they did it.
And using such a small sensor they really should have kept the resolution down. It's very very unlikely that this phone will turn out pictures that match the per pixel detail that can be expected from a high end 20MP camera sensor with Anti Alising Filter. (Nokia Lumia 1020 is not any where near 38MP either, so they should have kept the resolution down as well, although those extra pixels make some sense in the pureview process, the result would probably have been better over all if nokia had gone for about 20MP).
Sony made the RX100 and RX100Mk2, and those are the best compact cameras and a real engineering feat, this however is not.

AnonD-152638, 17 Jul 2013If the leaked specs are right, then this isn't a cameraphon... moreYou are correct but I think that the camera of honami is a big move forward for a high end smarphone!!!
Do not forget the thickness of each phone: 8.3 mm is an amazing victory comparing to bulky zoom and 1020! In addition to dust and water proof!
Anyway, we are not the experts in cameras, we should wait the launching and test the phone!!
Finally, what I know is that this phone will be mine soon!

AnonD-133243, 17 Jul 2013So, you can take only 8mp photos at 16:9 resolution and not... moreEither it will be implemented in a later release.
Or Sony simply figured that using 16:9 resolution that is just a crop makes little sense, but provided the mode for those looking to upload their images and then even 8MP is really overkill.
Isn't 4K televisions 8MP? Then perhaps the mode is thought out to be the maximum resolution anyone would have the use for, for what is simply a crop image.
Simply always take photos in 20MP and do the cropping to 16:9 in even the most basic free image editor out there, if you really need 16:9 aspect ratio.

If the leaked specs are right, then this isn't a cameraphone to take on the 1020, it's simply their new generation high end device, replacing the Z.
The camera is improved over last years model, but that is usual. Perhaps it will be somewhat more camera focused, but with no real sacrifices made for the sake of the camera.
So those of us waiting for a Sony camera-centric phone, are still in the waiting, this is simply not it, if leaked specs are right.
The Lumia 1020 and to a lesser extent Galaxy S4 Zoom are the only real camera-centric smartphones out there at this point.
The Honami is just another high end device, with slightly better camera than last generation.

AnonD-133243, 17 Jul 2013So, you can take only 8mp photos at 16:9 resolution and not... morePixel pinning.
but I agree with you that they should put more resl. options.
Like nokia pureview (2, 3, 5, 8, 34, 38 Mp) !

20 MP for 1/2.3" inch sensor is really overkill. It's a shame that sony makes wrong moves only because of people think more megapixels means better camera, but of course they're wrong.
