Smaller process node allows for higher clock speed.
Combined with better CPU architecture, the clock speed can go even higher.
A17 Pro achieved 3.78 GHz. Using the same 3nm node, 8gen4 allegedly achieved 4.09 GHz which indicates that it has better architecture.
Possibly using oryon or phoenix cores.

So looks like it'll be 2 Oryon and 6 A720. Or maybe both clusters are Oryon just different clock speeds.

Not to mention that this is a pre-production model, things can be optimized to get better support or use the resources more effectively.
Also, Apple uses a 3nm process and so will the 8 gen 4. No one knows how efficient that'll be but as history has shown, node improvements do improve the efficiency so the ghz doesn't matter as much. Not only that, there's literally a huge change in the strategy. Qualcomm are using 2 big cores and 6 efficiency cores. If Mediatek can pull off all big core with 4nm why can't Qualcomm do it with 3 nm?
I understand you are mad at Qualcomm but remember, the 8 G1 and 888 were made by Samsung's nodes, NOT TSMC. The 8+ Gen 1 is literally an 8 Gen 1 but just made by TSMC and look how efficient it was. I think you should just chill and see what comes up later on.

Most benchmarks tests are not reliable or close real life experience, like if you have the best chip than start a game or an intensive app or multitasking get the device to the edge it's going to throttle to 60% of max performance cuz of bad management of heat or lack of it translate to overheat drop in performance lag freeze drain etc...
2+6 cores clocked at 4.09Ghz and 2.78Ghz that's not looking good for battery drain and throttling in performance, it's going to suffer without a fan or reliable cooling solution, i hope the TSMC architecture correct the disaster of 8 & 8+ gen 1 2 3 throttling.

would have rather get 30% more power efficient than gen 3 ANY DAY !!!! I bet this 30% increase in power comes at least with 20% increased power consumption
