MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC to have 30% better single-core CPU performance vs. 9300

09 August 2024
It's also 35% more efficient, so expect improvements all-round.

Anonymous, 11 Aug 2024Cool, but the real improvements need to be on the GPU. ARM ... moreI hope so too.

But at the moment the situation is practically and really like this:

    - Propagands Marketing Mediateck; "our Dimensity is better than Snap, antutu shows us how great we are!"

    - Real life users; "Why the fuck does yuzu not start!!!? Why the fuck does winlator always crash!!!? Why the fuck is it SO SLOW in the game!!!?

    There is an old adage:

    - There is a world of difference between saying and doing.

Companies all over the world need to just stop talking bullshit.

    Simple.

Cool, but the real improvements need to be on the GPU. ARM has to quite a bit of work to do its Immortalis GOUs to catch Adreno, but I believe they can do it in 2-3 years if they're willing to improve their architecture to provide better performance and most importantly : stability, which has always been a problem for MTK during stress tests and extensive benchmarks.

MediaTek also has to offer better development support for its products since 99% of phones that come with their Dimensity SoCs end up lacking support for custom roms and emulation. That's what makes Snapdragon-powered devices always community favorites, and what makes enthusiasts choose Qualcomm over MediaTek (though the mainstream market isn't as affected since they don't care about those things).

If these issues can be mitigated, then MediaTek should have a clear path to become the leading SoC manufacturer by expanding its portfolio of OEMs that would be willing to use their chipsets.

Looking forward to that, because more competition is always good for the market as it prevents either side from running a monopoly that allows them to limit development costs by lowering the standards while raising the prices (like Intel with 9th, 10th, 11th gen CPUs before AMD introduced Ryzen and helped offer an alternative that eventually pushed *ntel to improve its offerings). Hopefully we'll find ourselves in a landscape where Qualcomm and MediaTek are pretty much tied on performance, and have to compete based on price.

Anonymous, 09 Aug 2024sounds fake. I guess d9400 needs 130% of sd8gen3 to comple... moreIt's not really surprising, jumping from 4nm to 3nm isn't the same as the jump from 5nm to 4nm (which is basically a refined node of 5nm). Even the 8 Gen 3 can use only 45% less power just to match the peak performance of the 8 Gen 2, same thing with the 9300 which can use 50% less power just to match the peak performance of 9200. So the reports must be true, though this is hardly noticeable because they are always pushing the frequency and thermal limit to show that performance uplift, resulting in the newer chips consume the same or even slightly higher power draw and making the look power-hungry even though they are actually more efficient.

X925 was supposed to bring 36% single core improvement (with 3nm process) over "2023 premium android" so probably over snapdragon. Dimensity 9300 scored less than snapdragon last year.

Anonymous, 09 Aug 2024They're too obsessed with sleeknessThe Mi 10 Ultra had a 1/2" telephoto and the Find X2 Pro had a 1/2" UW cam inside the small ish camera bump. The other companies can definitely do this they just don't want to. Have you seen how big the iPhone's camera bumps are? They're quite big after the 12 series. It's all excuses man. The 11 series had a small sleek bump, the latter ones are unsightly and too big for solo protruding lenses, exceptionally difficult to clean and running your finger between them is annoying af.

Forget this, as soon as Samsung releases new Galaxy Tab S10 series that powers D9400.

Chinese phones like vivo/iQOO flagships will use that. Even Redmi will use D9400+ for accurate results in efficiency curves

I hope to buy a RoG phone 9 with maybe a MTK SoC for a change...?

Not all brands plan to sacrifice design in favor of massive cam system that in the end does not help to sell more phones. All chinese ultras are selling poorly and none of them gonna even reach 400.000 units before next generation shows up. Even P70U is failing to sell compared to P70 Pro+.

While every year iphone pro max sells more than 30 million units. Why would apple bother to spend money on it?

Apple, samsung, Motorola, sony, asus, htc, meizu are not going to make that bizarre bump seen on x100u, 14u and x7u. Bumps that are 6-7mm thick.
