jiyen235, 13 Aug 2024So Vivo's going to the dark side and following Xiaomi&... moreThe HP9 periscope dramatically outweights the lesser main sensor though? Going from a 1/2.51" (sensor's actually 1/2" but cropped) sensor to a 1/1.4" one is quite the upgrade! And that's not even mentionning the 200MP that allow for much better digital zoom, and the closer minimum focusing distance (18cm vs 11cm) that allows for better macro shots. For insects enjoyers like me, that feature is not a gimmick but a genuine huge strenght.
I don't see this as the X100 Pro but nerfed, this is truly an upgrade. If you never really cared about the telephoto then I'd argue you should've never even cared about the X100 Pro anyways, considering it was perhaps its greatest strenght when compared with other brands.
I do understand the dissapointment from the loss of the 1" sensor, but I do suspect it was done both for size constraints (unless they plan on upping the camera bump's size across the entire lineup) and BoM reasons. That HP9 periscope is expensive and probably didn't fit in the budget for the Pro model if added in, in fact, it didn't for the X100 line-up.
It's a trade-off, but one made with a huge upgrade for the telephoto in mind. I'd argue Xiaomi's way of handling it was much less clear-cut and did just feel like they were trying to make the Pro less appealing specifically for people to want the Ultra instead.

Imx689 / 789 / Lyt800 / LytT808 : 8.96 mm x 6.3mm = 56,45mm2
Isocell GN1 : 9.6mm x 7.2mm = 69.12mm2
Isocell GN2 : 11.42mm x 8.56mm = 98.21mm2
Imx989/ Lyt900 : 13.2mm x 9.75mm = 128.7mm2
M4/3 : 17.3mm x 13mm = 225mm2
FF: 36mm x 24mm = 864 mm2
Lyt800 / T808 are about 2x more light sensitivite than imx689/789, acting as 107mm2 sensor.

Lyt T808 is variant of Lyt800 ( imx888 inside xperia ).
Exmor T sensors are thicker than Exmor RS, because of extra layer , also they have taller pixels. .
" Sensor made to fit foldables" dont exist.

Type 1.0 is about 123.5 mm2.
Aperture lets more light in.
Sensor still is far less sensitive.
Light is wasted.
This one is nothing more than imx707 with dcg hdr and better lithography, just like lyt900 vs imx989.
How about paying for exmor T instead of wasting money on using expensive chips like 8g2/D9200/D9300 inside midrange phones like iqoo neo series?
Waste of budget.

I'm hoping they'll be able to make the HP9 periscope module thinner over time, or at the very least try to keep the footprint of the camera bump to a genuine minimum. I really love this camera but the X100 Ultra's curved display and massive camera bump is kind of a turn-off.

Only Samsung and Apple provide 4k videos without wobble and artifacts, and without frame drops.
You can adjust sharpening natively on Samsung and there is no Chinese water colour effect.

22nm sensor means that it's a Sony LYTIA sensor. At 1/1.28" size may mean it's a tweaked LYT-808 or LYT-T808.

Does this mean that only the Ultra variant will have the 1" primary camera sensor? 1/1.28" is a huge step down from 1".
