The Pixel 9 Pro Fold uses a side-mounted reader instead. Previously, the Pixel 8 and older models used optical fingerprint readers.

But it's gonna be awkward with effectively three regular screen compared to normal phone on it, you'd need to fit multiple of those, so companies would rather use side mounted fingerprint for cost and simplicity.

                                      Custom is more expensive. Chinese phones are full of off-shelf pieces. How many with 6.7" 20:9 screens? How many with same camera sensors ( imx890, imx766, ov32a, ov64b, ov50a, 0v50h). This helps to reduce costs .

                                      The higher is amount of components you order, the better price you can get. Do you think Asus and Sony pay Qualcomm the same Samsung pays, when samsung easily get N times more 8g3 units?

                                      Even with crap tensynos, BoM of pixel 8 pro was similar value compared to S23+. Something $440-460.

                                      Did you get offended by the 256GB vivo x90 pro €1300 tag , phone with mediatek chip that is far cheaper than Qualcomm?
