Weekly poll: which Google Pixel 9 are you getting (if any)?

18 August 2024
Google unveiled three new rigid and one new foldable phones this week with major improvements.

The vanilla Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro have serious pricing problems against the competition here in Malaysia. For almost the same price as the Pixel 9 128GB, we can get Xiaomi 14 512GB, ZTE Nubia Z60 Ultra 512GB, and Huawei Pura 70 256GB. Even the Pixel 9 Pro 128GB costs the same as the Xiaomi 14 Ultra 512GB, and the latter has just about the most capable camera hardware you can get in 2024.

The only fighting chance for Google in my country is the Pixel 9 Pro XL 256GB against the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 256GB and Sony Xperia 1 VI 256GB since all three phones are evenly priced.

Pixel 9a will be £550 or £600 calling it now

I might consider the Pro in 3-4 months but not at these prices, must be much lower. Also, news coming out of performance throttling, not good but lets wait and see...

Definitely the Pixel 9 Pro. Pretty much a one handable phone and perfect if you're constantly on the move. Just surprising they didn't use a different chipset base like the Exynos 2400 which is on par in performance with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 albeit slightly less efficient. But at least you get a similar experience with the Pixel 9 Pro XL at a smaller, lighter weight.

I've seen many users commenting the price. While YES!, almost every smartphone on the market is WAY overpriced. They're like living in the la-la land.

At 50-60% of their current price, they'd be only okay.

I love the idea of the smaller pixel pro however, still missing the stylus is enough to put me off . Just give me pro specs in that package and include pen and I will buy it without even thinking.

Put 30% lower price on all of them, improve killing 240 hz PWM dimming, and then we can talk.

i don't know why the base model is marked as a flagship, it is at best a mid-ranger, and should be £200 cheaper. the pro is not quite worth that price, at least the tele cam means it has flagship specs unlike the base. not interested in the giant xl nor the waaay overpriced fold.

I have pre ordered the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Really excited about this one

For half the price I might be slightly tempted. At these prices, I am not stupid.

I can get OnePlus12 24GB/1TB for half the price and it completely destroys Pixel 9s.

I like that they offered the Pixel Pro in 2 sizes now. The normal Pixel 9 is lacking in many areas, will see how it fare against the 9A or will google end the A-series. The new fold is improvement over the original fold, but way too expensive.

I would go as far to say that if you can hold off then don't buy a smartphone until next year. This year's offerings from the majority of companies have been subpar.

Samsung cost same, they S24 ultra and other S24 phones cost exactly same at launch early this year. Google think it competes with big boys. Even Google sell shit. Their phones are appalling, full of hardware issues with terrible processing.

Why do you think every Android maker ask same prices as Apple? Because most of them make better hardware than Apple.

Why no poll on Pixel 9 series phone for the "Piece of $hit" phone of the 2024 year?? I'm waiting for it. Lame SoC, camera setup are the same all over the series and price is freaking expensive for each model. The price gap is like USD 200 differences yet bloody same weak SoC even in the Pro model 🤦🏻‍♂️

the 9 pro XL would have been my pick but neither of the pixels are officially available in my country so i have to import it from US
