If pixel 9 was 150 mm, I would buy it for 1000 euros, now it is a bit too heavy and tall, I will choose between pixel 8 and s24

Pixels with this specs should be, like someone said, 350$ at most

Next year with TMSC chips maybe 400$ but need to see how the chip behaves (this is google after all)

Its really sad the state of smartphones today

justasmile, 18 Aug 2024It's not even about the underpowered chipset - it'... moreWhy Pixel when Samsung S series phones are available for half the price of the flagship Pixel it just doesn't make sense especially since the Samsung ecosystem is much better.

Anonymous, 18 Aug 2024rather buy a 8gen2 flagship phone from 2 years agoYou're right especially since the prices of this year's flagships are so high that it defeats the purpose.
In the coming years, phone innovation will stop at IA, which can only apply filters to photos, which many of us do not use at all it's no wonder that there is a group of people who don't want to pay for it, since we have already achieved performance for years in devices from 6 years ago.
        Personally,
I would prefer a device with fast wireless charging and longer battery life than these IA circuses

9 Pro would be great if it was 900 euros with 256GB of memory, till prices drop, and they should quickly, best to avoid the whole lineup

                  I hit submit by mistake.

Anyway, I don't see a point in buying a Pixel phone at this price point. The photography won't make up for it.

rather buy a 8gen2 flagship phone from 2 years ago

As a Pixel 8 Pr owner, I find this generation as utterly disappointing.
I mean, it's fairly nice, but since I already own pretty much identical phone, I see no reason to upgrade.

I am waiting if they can do anything worthwhile with Pixel 10.

I was very much excited for Google fold2 but they increased the outside screen size by too much. I have s23 and was ready to switch if it stayed about 6.1 ". Now I'll wait to see the new Sony pro phone in December. Allegedly a huge battery and smaller screen!

With Android 14, these should've been released in the first half of the year.

Battery endurance over 20hrs yes xD

I will not buy any of those due to camera bump

I'll avoid the Pro XL because the smaller Pro exists.

The smaller Pro is nice but it's fate depends on reviews. My concerns are the cameras (small sensor size, video quality, autofocus issues) and of course, the price (which should go down eventually).

The vanilla model (pixel 9) is cool but cuts out UWB and cameras. I might consider it if its price is substantially lower than its Pro sibling. (obviously, I'll check reviews first and wait for a sale/price drop).

Because all these phones get 7 years of updates, it makes sense to wait for the price to drop. I know the Tensors G4 is a major drawback compared to other flagships (specially Apple's) but... yeah, hopefully I won't notice it. (Tensor G5 maybe?)

It's not even about the underpowered chipset - it's just overpriced. At that point you should just get the Pixel 8 instead, especially since both get the same number of updates.

"The rear cameras are mostly the same"
The periscope is very different because in contrast to Google's specs, you don't get anymore "optical quality" at 10x because in contrast to 7 Pro/8 Pro, the 9 Pro XL always uses analog pixel binning at 10x-30x (unless you choose the 50 megapixel mode), I tested it in a store. You get 2.4 megapixel dng files at 10x.

"but they can now record 8K video (30fps). The front got a major upgrade to a 42MP sensor"
No, it can't record 8k video. It can only upscale pixel binned 4k video to 8k in the cloud. Also, you can't take 42 megapixel selfies. Dng files of the selfie camera have a resolution of 10.0 megapixel due to analog pixel binning, there is no high resolution mode. Even when you zoom with the selfie camera, it will still use analog pixel binning.
