Snapdragon 8 Gen 4's Adreno GPU rumored to run at 1,250MHz

21 August 2024
That's 250MHz higher than the fastest 8 Gen 3 GPU.

As for mobile apps, you can still find great alternatives for Android. For instance, I use LumaFusion on Android, a great alternative to Adobe Premiere Pro. I also use PhotoMate R3, a capable alternative to Adobe Lightroom Classic, despite some drawbacks with the UX. If I still have to use desktop software, I can easily install Andronix and run any desktop GNU Linux I fancy. I can also do the same in Termux. You can still do real desktop computing on your smartphone with mobile OS.

Most applications like MS M365 solely run on single core even on desktop's. Their multi-threaded aware but run single core that's why we've not seen ANY improvements in over 20yrs !

Many games are single core as well like candycrush. So you need to be VERY definitive and specific which apps and which games you speak of. Unless you're brain is running single-core only and not capable to expand ;)

If the clocks are that high it's possibly the same GPU as the 8 Gen 3 but overclocked, no changes in architecture.

The King., 21 Aug 2024What we need now is not heavy benchmark scores. They have l... moreThat's exactly what QC is trying to do, lowering DTP in announced flagship. They are aiming to get there by cutting down the prime big cores to two and you end up with more than great performance in the most used apps (browser, front and back used Web end) which are still sadly mostly SMP2 (they can and use more cores during the start but then they utility only two). On the other hand what you save on CPU you gain as headroom to give to GPU or some other acceleration block.
On the other hand MTK went with more traditional approach, of the shelf CPU cores and MALI GPU with what's considered maximum DTP as before 15W (Vs around little more than 8 quoted by QC). Keep in mind Adreno GPU clusters are much bigger than MALI's and there is fewer of them (Adrenos) but more you have it's more difficult to have good performance scaling and on the other side in basic tasks you consume more power having a bigger cluster and ARM is ahead with IO logic for MALI's anyway, also keep in mind scheduler logic for GPU's is still basic.
Keep in mind 1250 MHz is not a milestone which whosent reached and exceeded before (for example MALI MP6 in MTK 9300 Ultra works on 1400 MHz) it's about area/W and performance it gives. I do think S8 Gen 4 is a step in right direction form design perspective, after all it's for phones where you won't have lots of meaningful multitasking it won't be iconic in any way (unparallel performance or brake throw in any metric). However there is so much more it can be done from more and better V rails and states and their management too finally freeing the Mem bandwidth and keeping the latency low along with power consumption using HBM and removing victim cache. While this would be only partially beneficial for CPU it's enough to make A725 on pair with X4 (15~20% performance gain) with big efficiency benefits (2x) it would be a much bigger step regarding GPU performance (50% at least compared to 4x16 bit bus), and a lot more.

No wonder Chinese’s company’s are putting big battery’s on their phones. I hope phone manufacturers find a way to handle the heat.
