outandabout, 23 Aug 2024EU has got 2 years hardware warranty. Not software.A warranty means that the company guarantees that the entire product or certain characteristics of the product will function during the entire warranty period. But remember that you always have the protection from the consumer legislation. You have a three year guarantee, even if the warranty period is shorter.

The app store has rally tight guidelines and doesnt allow many apps so the third party apps have been crucial in iOS' success. Appdb is my fav but there are plenty of others like builds, iosgods, scarlet, tutu, tweakbox, appvalley, etc. Now that iOs is getting unlocked more I fear the iOS malware might become a bigger issue since there has never been a version of iOs that has been secure(jailbroken 0day).

US is capitalist, that is true. The problem is that US is reaching post-capitalist era, where few companies dominate and everyone else suffers for it. A small start up that want to make something decent? You are being undercut by the dominant players, or bought by them.

If you are getting the option to install a different app that you prefer, that is great. It allows different approach to messaging and people that enjoy different style, or look/feel of the app will be happy.

But if you replace the default app with another one you can't change and it is locked away, you can't change it - it just is the same, apart Google it is Xiaomi. Or Apple.

One last word : we in EU should better write good code than making ridiculous and useless 'cookie' laws. And pay good software engineer more than this way overpaid Eu bureaucracy ( because we've all been more or less forced to leave eu, as I did....)

Enjoy. And don't loose time with that, it's all faked in the kernel ( engineer humour....) . Haha.

Not smarter, but more careful and wise for sure. Biggest cloud recent incidents making a million people stuck in airport s= 'security' update... how 'secure' was that ?
Also I'm not president of usa, who you'd want hack me. And if so, they would ( some well known expensive hack kit...). Just basic security ( firewall, not install anything you wouldn't trust, ) but yes I know many think differently. And they all failed. Haha.

[deleted post]Haha yes I agree and at same time you use their software and pay a lot for all those phones.

Eu their high wage and their ridiculous cookie popup laws. While they enjoy their high wage, apple still send 50kb private json data you click anything on store, whatever you consented for. and probably many other things under the hood.

the biggest cloud incident ever was because of Blind 'security' updates, recently. Costs billions and people stuck in airports.

Been software engineer ( a real one, not those python/J's coders ) For 30+ years. Not making me smarter but at least wiser.

Anyway cannot force. If you want to do all those updates, have fun, enjoy troubleshooting and get your phone - and data - controlled :) me I prefer being smart and control myself. And I don't think EEA would try to hack me through Israel hack software ( and even so, having latest secure patch certainly won't protect me in that situation...)

I experienced that, I can say how I switched back rapidly. )

You cannot do without them nowadays. I tried. Even rooting is becoming a nightmare to do. So again, the EU trying to impress ridiculous. We'd better make some competition ( but with EU people like mr Breton who pushed the best IT french company to bankruptcy, that certainly won't happen)

Or buy a feature phone, if you really want to do without googapple.

Thought the same when young with euro, euro is strong.
                                        Was naive and stupid.
Euro, just highly overpaid people we pay tons of taxes for cheating on us. they lick those companies assses, even they look like they are defending us against them.
They're actors. They're fakers. Also we weren't able to do any competition. That Mr Breton who was involved into those laws, he literally pushes one of the best french IT company to bankruptcy.
And for many other reasons. We would be too long to tell.

Also those companies have too much to loose. They do whatever they want. There's smart. Very smart. They perfectly know we have no competition. Absolutely none.

From their point of view, we're clowns loosing their time for nothing. And people are addicted to them. That's about it.

Sorry renting but been in IT for 30 years, recognized highly skilled doing great. and then people like Breton sent my job and my code to Africa.
