But on my Po... moreThey only removed the requirement for a Mi Account on hyperOS. MIUI before it required the login.
I didn't say you can't do the things I mentioned. I said that they go out of their way to stop you from doing it, putting 10 second nag screens (unknown sources or even a simple factory reset), forcing logins (USB debugging), disabling phone features (gesture navigation when using a third party launcher), or making you wait weeks (bootloader unlock).
They don't outright disable stuff so that they can avoid extreme backlash or deal-breaking, but they really try their hardest to stop the end user from getting the bloatware and/or that interface off their phones

I would hope this lets them set phones to use all 4g / 5g bands and be a true international phone.

Hugo, 26 Aug 2024And now even xiaomi will be implicated in the same way as huaweiNope, not at all. You seem to think the US sanctions were about only mobile phones or something because Huawei has a far more businesses (like backend telecommunications) that Xiaomi doesn't. Xiaomi is fine. I've been hearing the "Wait till they sanction Xiaomi" line for years at this point....

but why make their own SoCs? Unless they can sell it for cheaper somehow, this seems like a lost cause, Google and Samsung being clear examples. More competition is better but I think Mediatek should be pushed more and that'll create a better dynamic in the market than another failed chip manufacturer. 2 big shots competing against each other can easily be healthy, AMD proved that in the CPU space from the birth of the Ryzen series till the 7000 series.
I hope they don't shove this into their best phones and create a separate phone with this chip. And I pray to god this'll fix their battery cus what is up with Xiaomi's battery nowadays lmao

Anonymous, 26 Aug 2024Yes, this could well lead to US sanctions. I hope they'... moreWhy to lead to US sanctions? Cause they want to create their own soc? They even dont let them to import on US market. Why? Cause of Apple. They would wipe out that company market share in a year.

Aparently... Xiaomi AND Unisoc are getting more processors in their hands...
The Xiaomi approach is a joint processor with UNISOC. China, Africa, Middle East and LATAM only. The specs are Ok, is 8 Gen 1 tier.
But then UNISOC will have their own product with performance of Snapdragon 888, so yeah, is a "budget" targeted processor. Aparently is also on 4 nm TSMC, but they are targeting also SMIC for Chinese domestic market (and cover the Chinese cuota). And likely be 7nm (since 5 nm is covered by Huawei) to make it more "rentable"
