The display is next to go guys! We will be left with black monolith enclosure for battery and circuitry. Interactions will be vocal and gesture based similar to the vocalizations and gestures made by early hominids upon witnessing the monolith in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Counter/intuitive. A clean slate will always be a goal but then, how would we reboot the device when the screen freezes?

pl2rts, 27 Aug 2024So how will these touch sensitive surface work in the pocke... moreSimple, they ( = companies) don't care.
It sounds cool and that counts, just like in some cars where the warning light button is hidden somwhere in the menu's of that lovely touch panel a lot of modern cars have (same with airco).
It sounds cool and that counts, practicality is not important here.
Before someone grabs the pitchforks, I don't think this way, a 100% buttonless phone is asking for trouble, for one because there are solutions to make it right, but no company will because they want to earn something from it, and I know many can not imagine how you can earn money from it, but same discussions started when 3.5mm was removed, charging bricks, physical scanners, microsd slots and so on.
Companies do such stuff for a reason, often a financial one and often a lot of people are not able to realise "but how does this earn them money?"
It does, otherwise they would not come up with such idea and not try to implement it in a convinient way, rather implement it as basic as possible.
Anyhow, I can already see people justify it, the other commenter even mentioned that and it is true.

Loved LG's approach of leaving the buttons on back. Sides are completely flat and feel absolutely amazing. However truly buttonless would be interesting to see

So how will these touch sensitive surface work in the pockets ?
The touch feel on the buttons make me understand what way the phone is in my pocket and to add volume or degrease it.
Never mind that when you need to hold power button down to start up the device or for other reasons.
Also i dont get the point of buttonless to be top end hardware even tough the SD X+ gen X are a bit nerfed latest chips. Not made to be repaired so why would it need to be powerful with hardware ? When it becomes deposable phone after few years

And then other brands follow, and then more stuff is removed, then people try justify this for some reason and so on and so on.
Keep the buttons as is, instead make a true smartphone successor (foldables are still not that) and eventually remove buttons from that.
Lazy, thats the gist of this
But of course they also do this from a financial perspective, not to save money but earn more because of the inconvenience.

Xiaomi, did you really have to beat Apple to the punch for a buttonless phone? It already sucks that we don’t have a home button or headphone jack or a Shutter button(…errr I mean “CAPTURE” button 😂😂😂) but I straight refuse to use a phone with no power button nor volume buttons. You can not replace hardware with software. Just look at modern day cars and how people complain about them(unless your a 18-24 year old rich brat)

DeepIn2U, 27 Aug 2024Not a gimmick. You already use the tech on your screen!! ... moreHaving a touch screen makes sense because what touching different parts of the screen does constantly changes as you maneuver through apps, the interface is dynamic. Making buttons that are only ever going to be used in one way touch controls is just terrible. It's bad enough kitchen appliances are plagued by this.
