After my old smartphone's button got loose after 5 years, I do believe buttonless could be the next best thing. The only issue is how Xiaomi, Apple and many others when they do this will forever make it only repairable by them. Which is definitely a future bound to happen.

earworm, 27 Aug 2024Neat gimmick but I hope to god it doesn't catch on. I ... moreSamsung's S8 series had a SUPER neat feature after they removed the home button. They had a place in the bottom middle where if you applied more pressure it'll vibrate like you pressed a button, it felt so real to me like 80% of the way there. It was super duper fun.
I tried later phones and was depressed that that feature was gone. So much for tech enthusiasts/reviewers online being nitpicky about everything. They took away one of my most fav features which they implemented cus they had removed the home button and now they basically force you to use gestures as buttons are unfun.
Basically my point is if they bring in button-less smartphones, they should continue to improve or at least keep the good stuff. I pray to God that they don't nuke the good things about it and introduce poorer feedback.

Cars with no physical buttons didn't work well, i doubt this will be that great. And, all people do is put a case on phones so it's rather pointless.

Imagine your button less smartphone arrives and your software won't double tap to wake or wont show in display finger print option and that's it. Thou can't wake your phone on.. Hehehe

Basically still physical. If you remember old Android use dedicated home back and recent touch button and now in screen, also dedicated fingerprint sensor and now in screen.

There are way too many things that can go wrong without any physical hardware buttons. I think the power button, at least, should remain physical. Volume buttons anyway are not that important anymore.

I guess there will be a tiny reset button like the old days when the device freezes. You know those tiny holes where you need a paperclip to press.
