What buttons did to deserve such a fate is unclear.

This is your fault, because you were silent when they removed microSD card and headphone jack. Go and suffer now you, bought this upon yourselves.

Removing all buttons is just the same as removing the audio-jack, the charger... It's not for your convenience but just a mater of money, saving money it is. And of course, if it's broke then, sadly enough, you'll have to buy a new one as I don't think that any pressure sensitive stuff can be repaired if Incorporated into the chassis or motherboard. Nothing beats good old physical buttons but hey...it's called progress...

Next up - the smartphone-less smartphone.

Ok, but why? What if the sensors would not work well and for example you would like to turn the volume down and it will not work lol? A physical button is still much reliable than any sensor I guess.

I rarely use any buttons anyway. I use double tap to wake up or sleep. And don't change volume too much.

Maybe because of the ergonomics but never because of how it looks. You got point on water proofing though, but I think USB port and speaker grill are also contribute (arguably more than button) to water proofing.

I guess the frame will house pressure sensitive areas that will work as power and volume buttons. On my soundcore liberty 4 tws you have to squeeze the stem to control volume and music playback. Just having touch sensitive areas won't do the job because of accidental inputs just like some people complaining about Sony's side mounted fingerprint reader because of unintentionally turning on the display while putting the smartphone into your pocket.
Honestly I don't like the Idea of no buttons design. In terms of usability it's a stupid Idea just like it's in modern cars with touch control everywhere. It looks cool but makes the interaction with the system more difficult and dangerous.
