Do you actively think Sony isn't just exploiting their current loyal userbase ? If I were a Sony enthousiast I'd be pissed off they're trying to sell me these phones at these prices...

Seeuntea, 28 Aug 2024Exactly they're sad individuals I think it's silly to downplay the potential conflicts of interests in awards like these and instantly accuse the people doubting the results of being sad online trolls.
Did they say anything about preferring another brand?
I don't really know if the original commenter did indeed write this out of spite their favorite brand didn't get there, or just because awards mean nothing and are, across all industries, prone to being paid for.
But really that doesn't matter, you're not helping by making assumptions about others and blindly considering negative feedback as biased.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to have doubts about these sorts of awards.
Can you prove to us that EISA isn't being paid? If not, why consider people who do doubt these things to be trolls?

Sony Xperia 1 VI should have been the best smartphone, X100 Ultra should have been in place of Honor 200 Pro & Samsung S24 Ultra along with Honor Magic 6 Pro should have been their as well.

Did they demo the optical resolution and how it handles chromatic aberrations ? Really I think the biggest thing they need to prove after Sony's failure with the 1 VI is that they're capable of providing an actually better resolution than a prime lens and some digital zoom, that's the only way the smaller sensor and bigger aperture value towards the end of the range could be justified as acceptable.

Anonymous, 28 Aug 2024Even with my current Xperia 1 iv, it's still the best ... moreI'm also skipping the Mk6 Xperia 1 because it loses the iconic 21:9 CinemaWide screen and I'm also waiting for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC with the in-house Oryon CPU. Of course, I am tempted by the longer 7.1x variable zoom periscope telephoto camera, but it desperately needs a bigger camera sensor with a larger resolution. It's still funny to see the three-year-old Mk3 Xperia 1 still has a bigger telephoto camera sensor than all its successors. If Sony can utilize the LYT500 sensor as the new telephoto camera for the next-gen Mk7 Xperia 1, that would be great news!

Sony stopped trying to race to the bottom in competirem with companies funded by the CCP and that steal most of their innovation.
And by reducing operations and focusing on premium phones, they made the Xperia subdivision profitable.

I'm not slightly surprised to see the Xperia awarded as the best smartphone for pro-grade content creators. Even around my circle, I always see those with an Xperia 1 who use it for mobile cinematography and filmography. Ironically, I don't see those with a Galaxy S Ultra or an iPhone Pro Max that do such kind of job.
What surprised me is the best overall smartphone award winner, which isn't a flagship-grade smartphone. I saw the photos from GSMArena's review and can admit that it produces great quality. Just imagine how great the Honor 200 Pro could be if it had USB-C 3.1/3.2 with wired video output and Magic Desktop feature.
