Fairphone 5 now has a cheaper 6/128GB variant and a new color to go with it

04 September 2024
The phone originally launched with a single 8/256GB configuration, but it was fairly pricey (it has received a price cut since then, though).

It seemed to me like he overestimated the 855s power. And no, 855 can make use of 8+gb ram when emulating switch and pc games, 8gb models can get many games playable. 6gb models will force close them after some time.

The prices of phones drop in time. They are still from shop in the box with the original plastic wrapped on them.

Phones on their release date cost more cause the demand is a lot higher. When a model being out for half a year then the price have already drop a lot cause the demand for them have also dropped and from other brands are other models out that make other brands drop their price to sell over the other brands new phones.

Even 1 week used Poco X6 Pro i am not willing to pay more then 200 for it cause it's used. When the phone in shop cost something 270 euro for the 8GB RAM version.

I have never in my life bought any used phones. I also never will. For me it makes no sense. Samsung S22 is even still available to buy as new from shops.

pl2rts, 04 Sep 2024I would go with S23 with 600 euro. But if you get like Poco... moreAll used phones are cheap compared to launch prices, doesn't matter what brand. Probably for two reasons being, the aggressive buyback offers the big brands do and also because buyers of used phones has wisened up over the years. They know that any spares for them will still const a fortune and glass displays and rear will break eventually, because microfractures from drops will eventually evolve into full cracks and failures. Software designed for planned obsolescence is another reason used phones are unattractive. Latest example is the iPhone 15 models being denied the latest software features by Apple, because Apple wants to sell more iPhone 16s.

If this phone comes in India under INR 20000 for 8/256 then Fairphone will be rich considering most people buy phones in 15000-20000 segment in India.

I sell it after 3 years and $200 phones at that time will be way better than the X6 Pro.

Meanwhile, FP users still stuck on trash specs.

6GB RAM is fine as long as you don't do AAA mobile gaming. I tried playing Wuthering Waves and Honkai Star Rail on my LG V50, which happens to have 6GB RAM. Despite having a flagship-grade Snapdragon 855 SoC, both games barely run at Medium settings. Even on AetherSX2, not all games can run at full speed.
