Weekly poll: is the Honor Magic V3 the right foldable for you?

08 September 2024
The phone phone is thin and light - not just for a foldable, but even when compared to other flagships. And it is quite tough, as we ourselves have tested.

GAMIR3DH, 08 Sep 2024Call me Samsung fanboy, but i would rather get a Z Fold 6.Then why are you here, enjoy your mediocre galaxy fold 6

This phone great (at least it's far better than the galaxy fold 6 and Google's fold),but the vivo x fold 3 pro is just too good that if it's available in their country ,most people will go with that instead

CamoGeko-XDA, 08 Sep 2024I think I would still pick the OnePlus Open over this fold.I choose OnePlus open too at the first, but as time goes, think OnePlus is is not the best value for money, mainly because of its last year processor and the apex scam. And no wireless charger, yes the price is drop.
I just don't wanna be fooled.

Then I think to choose vivo. Yes vivo might be the perfect one. But I don't like it camera bump that doesn't sit in the center.

Then I think Samsung. man, almost same technology and design from last 3 year yet the price is higher,
It's just nope for me, I feel like being fooled if I buy fold 6.

panjielaraz, 08 Sep 2024I just got my global V3 today, coming from OnePlus 7Pro, SG... moreI think app drawer is available, just gotta enable it from somewhere in the settings

I just got my global V3 today, coming from OnePlus 7Pro, SG N20U, SG F4.
This just amazing, the smoothness of SD8+G3 is there, Crisp display.
Camera still ok for casual user like me, as long as it has enough sharpness with not too dramatic colour calibration I'm fine with that, and the V3 has it, the flagship camera, even it's not the best.

Speaking of software everything runs smoothly, google framework, GPay NFC, transition between primary to secondary vice versa, and the multi floating window with magic portal is really amazing man, you gotta try and love it. And the launcher is good too, it's icon folder is so much custom able, and it's really easy to get familiar to it.

Even though it's not that perfect (but is there a perfect?)
I miss these features not available on V3:
          - under display fingerprint
          - built in spen with capturing capabilities
          - curved narrow bezel that pleases my eyes
          - custom font
          - app drawer mode
          - better camera for easy video call (on front/secondary display)
Other than that, everything on V3 really please and amaze me.

And the 4.2mm thickness, man you gotta try how it feels in hand man, really waking me up on how foldable should be (regular thickness and weight, but have dual foldable screen)
I love Samsung and it's one UI, that was great experience.
BUT, don't you think Samsung nowadays feels like Apple?
Years by years with same model almost same specs, same 25W
          Are they really do research/development?
It's just the processor upgrade, snapdragons have the research
Camera upgrade it's Sony that research.
          AI feature it's google cloud.
Come on man, competition is good for us, Customer.

Hahah it's a long post. I should have include potato at the end.
Sorry mate, didn't meant to offend anyone, just share my thoughts..
          Cheers..

I think I would still pick the OnePlus Open over this fold.

              This is the right question.
This was the exact reason why I got it (infact, I ordered the Chinese version by end of july).
I was never interested in the fold since I knew the rubbish Samsung was offering to people in terms of hardware..and once I saw this phone I said this is it. Finally.. time to retire 2 slabs(iPhone and samsung) for one foldable which made my daily routine so much more efficient.
The answer is a big yes!

Foldables are really not so expensive to make anymore. The problems with them is space constraints for making them thin to fit in the pocket, so it sacrifices on battery capacity and good camera sensors. It's just the market trying to push towards more expensive premium stuff like inventing Ultras to hype the prices. so until it will cost 1000 euros is pointless to buy any Horizontal foldable, especially then they don't use proper cameras or big batteries, foldable will fail to gain traction until this issues will be sorted.

GAMIR3DH, 08 Sep 2024Call me Samsung fanboy, but i would rather get a Z Fold 6.Sorry to say but midranger from Samsung with a flagship CPU is not my forte.
It reminds me a Poco F1 from xiaomi a 300 eur flagship with best CPU and GPU on market but midranger in all other aspects.

Sboy, 08 Sep 20242 things put me off this phone - the software and the after... moreWell its just myy opinion but would swap Samsung foldable for Huawei or any other brand foldable any time a day.
Samsung UI is nothing but one horribly go wrong experiment where most devices have
4, 6 or 8GB of ram from which is half eaten by Samsung UI and rest is not enough for proper use like playing AAA games without issues.
Even said fold 6 with only 12GB of ram is good for brownsing. 6GB ram is instantly eaten by Samsung UI and gazzilions of preinstalled samsung apps and the remaining 6 is good for only most basic tasks.

I dont want a foldable is right ioption for me.
First company whioch makes foldable which will survive at JRE mohs pick of 6 or greater will maybe change my mind.
Untill then scratchable by mohs pick of 2-3 is a certain no.
Not interested in replacing main screen for 1000+ euros every week or two.
Thanks but foldables are a no for e for reasons above and untuill they will not release something as durable as ordinary bar phone flagships this is a no for me.

Another thing is i cant use a phone without a bok case and a proper panzer glass screen protector.

                      Said all i want.

For that price... Absolutely not. It does seem like one of the top foldables without compromises. I'd wait for OnePlus open 2 and that's a maybe still on buying it because of the OS updates being less than Samsung/google and availability of service if the thing breaks.

David 040882, 08 Sep 2024Nah, I can see your point. Samsung's better-optimized ... moreSuch a golden comment. You condensed so much of my thoughts into a concise, coherent paragraph.

Really hoping the huawei mate XT gets a global release in some form... maybe the Homor magic Z?

My profile page shows a list of foldables
Honr Magic V* may today be the best foldable, but I wouldn't be aggreived if I got the latest version of another manufacturer.

You won't find any iteration of any Google Pixel Foldable in my list.

The Google Pixel Foldable like the entire Google range, are mid range phones with mid range features sold at premium flagship prices.

Lucy M, 08 Sep 2024Folding phones are only useful for a collector to keep them... moreAt least they're more useful than this comment!

GAMIR3DH, 08 Sep 2024Call me Samsung fanboy, but i would rather get a Z Fold 6.Nah, I can see your point. Samsung's better-optimized software, along with the lengthy OS support does sort of make the Z Fold6 look more dependable/reliable, but as for hardware, it does lag a bit behind competition. So it ultimately depends on your priorities: better software or more powerful hardware. Want both? Then get the X Fold3 Pro or OnePlus Open

GAMIR3DH, 08 Sep 2024Call me Samsung fanboy, but i would rather get a Z Fold 6.I'm curious why you'd choose the Z Fold over the Chinese foldable, given its inferior hardware, cameras, and overall performance.... The only significant advantage I see is the Z Fold 6's well optimized foldable software compared to the competition. Is that also the reason motivating your choice?
