Considering that they've been downgrading the 5 since the V, as long as that one is still available, why worry about it? There is no need to update phones that often.

Anonymous, 17 Sep 2024HahhhahI like they're designs. Their phones are too narrow for my taste but I appreciate the clean design with no notch, a headphone jack and, best of all, expandable memory. A nice touch is being able to remove the sim and micro SD cards without the need of a tool. I'm still using the 5III and will probably get a 5 IV as a backup because it's that last 5 made for the U.S. I like a larger screen but you'd phone is far more comfortable to have in my pocket and walking with it using it as, you know, a mobile phone. I expect to be laughed at, mocked, scolded and humiliated. I miss the pre-internet past.

That's because people prefer 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and not a remote control like gimmicky design
Sony needs 2 more upgrades on top of what the already fixed in the 1 vI:
            1-DC-DIMMING
2-Dex like feature that's well baked like Samsung's
Bonus feature is to lose the stock android UI that we got sick of, a bad thing that's only been pushed by bloggers/YouTubers and not by the consumers, and those are just Pixel nerds and/or paid by team Pixel!
Using a stock UI does not aid with performance as they led you believe (at least not after 2018 gear)

I feel like the gap between 10 and the 1 is too big to leave unfilled, but seems like even if it does get filled, that phone won't be compact anymore. Guess I'll just buy the 10 VI - the last "small" phone with a headphone jack and SD card. Man, phones suck nowadays.

Would be even better if phones were platform-agnostic. If I could just put a new android on my old Galaxy S7 without it breaking integrity checks, the same way I upgrade the windows on my PC, that would be nice.

We buyers demand it and yes Sony needs it too. You cannot just market a flagship device, none does that, how many can afford it? And how many will even need it? Sales will be unsatisfactory.
That's why a device that competes with Pixel A and Chinese "flagship killers", that has headphone jack, microSD slot, clean UI, reliability and decent camera is highly necessary. I hope Sony realises this, its a great segment to target and Sony can conquer it if they do things correctly and listen to their buyers.

I'm disappointed that Sony hasn't released the Xperia 5 yet, but I appreciate that they may be taking time to address the throttling and screen issues from previous models. I’m hopeful that when this series does launch, it will be an even better version. As for the Xperia 1, I won't be switching to it, as it seems to have lost the compact nature that made the Xperia 5 series special.

I don't see the need of launching 5 VI, the amount of downgrades from 5 IV is the reason for significant decline in sales. I just missed the Flagship trio of Xperia. I just hope they will axe the 5 and 10 series and focus on premium segment only.

                                    Dear Sony,

It is likely that the prototype of the 5 VI is ready at the prototype level, but as long as the manufactured/contracted stock of the 5V is not sold out and you have not decided on the fate of the 5 series, it will be put on hold. If many people are indeed switching from the 5V to the 1 VI, then there is even less immediate incentive to launch it. In the meantime, perhaps you could implement some refreshment for the 5V. I have some ideas, but if I share them for free, then why would the marketers receive their salaries?

It's aimed at professional photographers who can expense it, not the typical (Sony Xperia) customer where the 1 or 5 series delivers well above their camera requirements at a more accessible price point. The Pro would be overkill for 99% of Xperia 1 and 5 consumers.

The trend last year was cutting features that usually the 5 series would get. This is the first year it's been skipped altogether. That trend suggests it may well never come back where even a new naming convention could appear next year and, like Apple, Sony has a simplified phone offering: one flagship and one mid-ranger.

The wider screen ratio also makes the 5 series redundant since the 1 is now slightly smaller, and the same ratio on the 5 would see the vertical space shrink. I think it's gone and personally, I'm not that fussed if the new flagship next year is around 160mm length and made of titanium to keep it light.

I was really hoping for a 19,5:9 xperia 5 vi. I think many upgrade to the 1 vi because of the more practical aspect ratio, I dont think people changed their opinions on size that much in only a year
