HMD licensed nokia name and patents to make smartphones and other electronics for 10 years, from 2017 to 2027. NOKIA decided to stop licensing it's brand and pull out from b2c businisses, that is why hmd needs to switch.

Any attempt to revive Nokia brand with these OS or even with Android would be unsuccessful.

Not just "tax laws", it's that politicians and custom officers charge bribes, commissions and abysmal customs charges from importers as "taxes" (electronic items get a minimum tax percentage of 75%, while vehicles get a minimum tax percentage of 300%). The most atrocious part is that they scrape the hard-earned money out of innocent people as taxes, to spend on luxury vehicles, items etc and appointing henchmen for the simplest of tasks like opening doors when they arrive, etc. Unfortunately, this is how our country became a breeding ground of corruption.
If bringing up tax laws made sense, then the average person here would live their life happily without struggling with their daily expenses. This is why most people in our country are extremely cautious of their buying decisions.

I live in asia so ig it makes sense why asian brands are so well priced here but the nothing phone 2a is amazingly priced where i live as well so i can't put my finger on why the HMD phones are so poorly priced here but well priced in your country. favorable tax laws perhaps?

jiyen235, 05 Oct 2024the Nothing/Realme/Vivo phones destroy these phones in term... moreThe alternative phones are simply priced competitively in your country. Here in our country, only one conglomerate under a businessman-turned-politician is responsible for the official imports of electronic items, to be sold under different vendors.
For the price of a Realme C11 from 2011 or a Redmi 9A, people can purchase 3 Nokia C32 phones. For the price of a base model Galaxy A04, Vivo Y16 or a Moto E13, people can purchase 2 or more Nokia G11 Plus phones. Same thing with computer accessories, where a low-end Kingston SSD costs as much as a Synergy Enterprise SSD in other markets.
Sounds completely tone-deaf to anybody living outside our market, but that's how it is in here.

Look like it is time for Nokia to take back its brand and resurrect MeeGo Harmattan and Meltemi OS just like Harmony OS. The original OS with Swipe UI that I miss so much maybe can work with Jolla to accelerate the development. The horror of how N9 and MeeGo Harmattan was stabbed by Lumia/WP/WM during Elop era was extremely terrible.

Same with the scarce resources, unlike Lenovo, Apple and Samsung depending on an endless ODM supply chain.

I'm happy with my Nokia c21plus. But like all mobile phones. It has it's blips. Even top range mobile's ,ie: iPhones, Samsung etc. I have an EE Hawk, 6 years old. But it works brilliantly. Only problem is the battery life is crap. But it was the same, when I bought it. We didn't have all the apps, we have now. 🤨

Anonymous, 30 Sep 2024Nokia is already dead.Right,
The real Nokia started dying when that Elop guy was made Director of Nokia. He killed it on behalf of USA.
Today, USA reaffirms its data domination.
