The Dimensity 9400 looks very efficient from the early tests using less power whilst gaming to sd8g3 and similar to apples latest, sounds promising when most are now offering 6000mah + battery

These on board AI nonsens are funny. People are going crazy over AI but in reality it's just pre programmed algorithms adjusting settings. H€ll whats next Auto focus becomes AI focus

Anonymous, 10 Oct 2024Thanks for confirming they're not "the same thing... moreIt's no problem, though I think you may have misinterpreted what I just said. I'll clarify this a bit more, go for Snapdragon if you really care about console / pc emulation, but if you want more or less the same performance and own a PC for emulation purposes, MediaTek is also a great choice. Outside of emulation, their gaming performance, efficiency, connectivity, are more or less the same. It's up to us buyers to decide what we want out of our smartphone

Anonymous, 10 Oct 2024CPU power has everything to do with overall image quality b... moreNo it doesn't. AI scene recognition, demosaicing, noise reduction, semantic segmentation, image stacking, or any other image processing that is computationally expensive doesn't run on CPU; it's usually ISP and NPU that take care of these tasks. For instance, when did Apple ever mention CPU when they were talking about their Deep Fusion algorithms in their past iPhone announcements?

Anonymous, 10 Oct 2024If price was the only reasons, Mediatek would choose A520 a... moreAgreed. I believe it is more to do with pacing the improvement.

Mediatek made a significant process jump from N4P to N3E, which enabled them to push higher clocks. Therefore, they didn't even need the newer cores for getting a large performance and efficiency upgrade.

Next year, with D9500, the process node improvements will be lower (with N3P) and it's doubtful they will be able to increase frequency a lot. So they might be planning to use two generations of core improvements to show good performance jump in the next iteration.

                    Mediatek's cores choice is expensive.
On 9300 4X4+4A720 were far more expensive than 1X4+5A720+2A520 on 8 Gen 3.
And double cache size is expensive too...and bring nothing in term of marketing

Nick Tegrataker, 09 Oct 2024Eh, no? Most of the important tasks in the image processing... moreCPU power has everything to do with overall image quality because of post processing, that takes huge amounts of CPU. The CPU is always the bottleneck in a cameras image/video quality.

All well and great with 5G chipsets but please MediaTek improve your 4G chipsets too with 4 big cores and 4 small cores. Something better than ageing G99 chipset

I'm sure the reason why MediaTek used the old cortex cores is to keep the price down.
                          Hats off to them. 🙂

Let's just add 1/10 inch sensor to any phone and call it a day, as long as CPU faster imagine quality will be 50% better every year 🤣 cameras quality has nothing to do with CPU genius.... it has to do with sensor size and optics, who could have guessed, suprise, surprise, no one saw this one coming.
