13 October 2024
This is the first entry-level phone to offer this level of longevity. However, will an entry level 2024 phone be able to keep up with software in 2030?

A15 looks better deal to me. there is not really any improvement in a16.

        A person on the rise...
meaning: Have lots of saving for old days, Kids in good school
Would want something better to support the daily activity

Meanwhile, a person that just hang on on the tight rope might want to use everything as long as possible.

Using s24+ but not 6 or 7 years. 3 years is fine. After that new phone is recommended.

However I would not go lower than 6gb of RAM, 4GB is on the edge now and in 6 years it will be surely unusable.

Exynos 1330 seems decent enough at least in terms of CPU, but Dimensity 6300 is essentially a rebrand of a rebrand of dimensity 700, a nearly 4 years old CPU.

Even if Samsung update A16 5G for 6 more years, I can't imagine using a 10 years old cpu would be a decent experience.

Samsung is the only company that cares about user experience and frequent updates. I approve of this and will buy it as a backup phone which appreciates the reliability that frequent updates give👍🏻

You should consider that 6 years of updates doesn't mean that it will get monhthly security patches. Look at the Galaxy A15 for example. It has not even been one year since its release and Samsung says on its homepage that it is only eligible for quarterly security updates. The same will be in the case of Galaxy A16. It will get quarterly security patches (4/year) and then after maybe 2 years of its release, only biannual security patches (2/year).

I don't understand why people are doubting the hardware. We still have phones running A76 cores today. That's from 2018. Just look at how many phones with G99 and Dimensity 6xxx launched last and this year. The fact is we are at peak smartphone. The Galaxy A16 will be fine 6 years from now. There has not been much changes on Android since Android 12.

I guess I'll sell my s23ultra yo buy this. :o)

to last long, it need a generous hardware. 3gb ram is normal 6 years ago. it will struggle nowadays. moreover, software will never become lighter each update, putting more burden on the phone. the price will be amplified by 5 when it arrived in my country so, each penny counts. any redmi with better spec will be picked over a16. if longevity is your main concern, grab a mid-ranger at least.

And Android phones can easily be used (for emergency situations) even with couple of years older Android versions.
