Weekly poll: will you buy the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G? Will you use it for 6 years?

13 October 2024
This is the first entry-level phone to offer this level of longevity. However, will an entry level 2024 phone be able to keep up with software in 2030?

It's actually not a terrible option as a backup smartphone, knowing the software won't make it obsolete after two years in a drawer.

IpsDisplay, 13 Oct 20246years OS is paradoxical People that like to not change... moreExactly what I was saying since the start of this "OS update battle".
People who will keep their phones for more than 3-4 years, don't care about OS updates anyway.
My Poco F6 will get 3 OS updates. Is plenty enough for me and I don't need more than this. And I got 3 years (2+1) extended warranty. I am pretty sure in 2-3 years some nice phone (newer model) will catch my eyes and I will buy it.

Also, technology changes, performance increases, etc. Just look at some phones from 4-5 years ago compared with the ones today. At least in the performance category. Will people still use them today for heavy tasks? Probably not.
Another thing to keep in mind, at least if somebody doesn't have a Samsung or iPhone, is the reparability of the phones. In EU is very hard if not impossible to repair phones other than Samsung or iPhones. Not with original parts anyway. And Chinese phones are so cheap, that is better to just buy the newer model than to try and repair the one you have.

If you believe to Samsung that this phone will be able to properly run OS updates up to Android 20, even with an Exynos 1330 and 8GB of ram, I've a swampland for investment to sell you.

Would be possible if it had removable battery or spare parts that will be still available in that 6 years.

Apart from that, imagine having a faulty USB port, and no repairer in your vicinity or country can get the part for you, what do you do with the phone from then ?

Which game is shown in the banner?

                  6years OS is paradoxical

People that like to not change the phone for 6 years will likely be the type of people with the "if it ain't broke don't fix it mentality" and will literally ignore the OS updates and don't care about it

Many are currently even running and lollipop etc and couldn't care less

In my country people were running 2g 😭 phones for years on only changed it when the 2g system shutdown

And our first worlder bro probably unaware the Apple and Samsung bubble is no longer as big as it used to be.

magnaroader, 13 Oct 2024I mean 2 years at most if someone needs a cheap phone, but ... moreIf you ever to Nigeria you'll know they don't want this phone!!
                      1. They don't think Samsung brand is any better than Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo & Techno.... Which is true. They understand that Sasmsung brand don't hold aditional value.
                      2. They don't care about OS update.
2a. They like security update, but OS update is not welcomed.

                      About update
I'm talking based on my experience...
I saw many of "basic user" that have bellow US$500 samsung phone, or bellow $200 xiaomi phone never do the update.

I would understand 8 Gen 4 or D9400 have 6 years of update
BUT.... Why low end phone need 6 years of OS update?
By 2 updates, it will already be slow enough.

Besides, it charged slow, and some use hot exynos

Anonymous, 13 Oct 2024Bruh. Keep hoping. Yea. Keep hoping for nothing.

For said price there are lot better entry level phones.
Even Redmi Note 13 pro plus can be bought for 270 euros and thats not entry level phone. 7Samsung goes nuts with its pricing.
And this phone no chance to last 7 years.
