Google refutes report that the Pixel 9 Pro XL is collecting too much personal data

11 October 2024
Some data is collected, but the same is true for other Androids - and even Apple's iPhones - claim the developers behind GrapheneOS.

She told me about the divorce, and then, within a few hours I saw the cake on facebook. Telling it to others doesn't mean I should see it. After all, how am I involved? Specially when I don't even really know many of my facebook and whatsapp people.
Any amount of interest tracking can't get this accurate. Divorce is a very specific event.
It does mean Whatsapp reads our messages.

Maybe they use some machinery to ensure no human reads it... but a machine reads it all?

That colleague of yours must have told others about their divorce. Or maybe they searched up about divorce on Facebook. So in that way, Facebook/Meta guessed their divorce. Then they used that guess to suggest you an ad of divorce cake.

    TLDR;
Meta doesn't need your personal info to know you. They can guess your interests based on what others around you do.

Sam N8 808 owner, 15 Oct 2024When you talk like that, you're talking for everyone. ... moreWell no, I am talking only about me. I am not a public person, so my opinion doesn't affect anyone.
If we would get to vote or something like this (I mean, in a way where my opinion will matter), then of course, I will vote against data tracking.
But for me individually, I don't care if they collect my data.

Anonymous, 12 Oct 2024"I doubt the CCP actually cares about your data."... moreThings change over time.
Today, you have a point and you're right. Today, they're just increasing data tracking, not arresting us for anything non serious.

Tomorrow, we never know, anything can happen.. Its about the long term. Who knows which government will be in power?

Maybe 20 years down the line, they'll hunt on you about that unauthorised file on your device... Can you guarantee it won't happen?

AnonD-1175487, 13 Oct 2024They can have my data. I am a middle aged man, looser with ... moreWhen you talk like that, you're talking for everyone. That's why we should think before we talk.

I'm the same group as you, but still, tracking is unethical, specially when we don't have a choice.

We're still discussing this? My phone has no account logged in except whatsapp, and all google services disabled. But its on stock firmware, Android 10.

Yet, I see hyper-relevant suggestions all the time while using Facebook on my PC. Both are not connected anyhow, except I use the same device for hotspot.
Somebody sent me that she's now divorced on Whatsapp, and I see a divorce cake post on Facebook. End to End tracking? Even Whatsapp can't read my conversations? Really?

My guess is, Google is spying on the microphone and sharing data somehow (even when I switch off mic permission for Whatsapp itself), they also know what we type on PC, or, could be data collected from other people's devices including voice, etc. So what my colleague says to me, is reflected in my Facebook feed's random posts.
Also, I think Google and Facebook are exchanging data after their 2022~ deal to cooperate with each other.

Around 2019 to 2021, I got a notification about change to Google's license terms, that they can track us even if we're offline. That pretty much kills all privacy you got.

Anything digital is tracked very badly nowadays, without any ethics of part of companies. Sometimes they don't let us know this, that's all.

I'm thinking to switch to huawei cos it doesn't have Google services...

Anonymous, 11 Oct 2024No, just send data to CCP. Better than to Google, right?Phone with official Google play store send to Manufacture + Google + Facebook

The Chinese phone don't send data to wakanda.
Only to phone manufacture... for some ads

                        The different here is....
                        Beside sending to phone manufacture
The phone with play store also send to google every 15 minutes + facebook

So, if we're talk about good/bad
The Chinese phone ACTUALLY did better

Of course not, US government just has secret prisons all over the world, where they torture prisoners, even If they did nothing.
Then when they finally release them, they don't even transport them back to their home country.

And I really wouldn't be so sure what would happen If I went next to Capitol with a T-shirt about propagating change from democracy to Communism or to stop occupying Kosovo and other countries etc.

I wouldn't want Google to track me if I'm carrying out subversive activities against the US government either. Still, I don't want Google tracking me or stealing my data for whatever reason.

Normally I'd be "anti-OEM this, anti-OEM that", but this time I think Google is the more misunderstood party.

Also, wtf is GrapheneOS? I've been flashing ROMs for nearly a decade now. Never heard of 'em.

Also, I am in great opposition with Google's decision on making the GMap Timeline local. Highly disagree with their rationale. My timeline holds lots of memories. If my phone dies or gets lost, well, there goes my 10 years of travel memories.
