Darth Caesium, 11 Oct 2024Google is wrong here, as are the people who are saying &quo... moreWe don't know If between a Pixel and Samsung phone, the amount of data google collects is the same.
And the data collected by Samsung is basically the same.
But I can agree that It is worse, that your data is collected by 2 instead of just one.
But relatively speaking that they "don't collect too much data on you" is just not true.

A lot of people are going to read this wrongly.
It is not that Google claims they don't collect too much data, but that they do not collect more data than they claim to collect.
They, just like Apple collect a lot of data for their own use, but if anybody ever read what they collect (most people never read it and just agree), the mountain of text both provide does explain in detail what they collect, why, for what purpose and for who (mostly for themselves, they don't need to sell it)
Where all chinese brands and samsung vaguely explain to you with who they share their data (fun fact, all chinese brands and samsung at least sell your data to others, in case of samsung and xiaomi only if you make a corresponding account on their devices, not of you only use google services because then that list is smaller)
Bonus: direct from china devices do send data to chinese servers.

Google is wrong here, as are the people who are saying "X brand doesn't use Google Play Services, therefore much better for privacy". All phone OEMs collect masses and masses of data on you, including Apple — they are literally the 4th largest advertiser — and only by flashing custom ROMs tailored specifically for privacy like GrapheneOS can you stop this from happening.
Google's refutation only means something in the sense that other phones aren't any better, and with some like Samsung, it's worse because you have multiple entities to be worried about —i.e. with Samsung phones, both Google *and* Samsung collect vast amounts of data about you. Google collects too much (and I personally would draw that line relatively early), but it's nowhere near some other brands and so only relatively speaking, they "don't" collect too much data on you.

TechDevil, 11 Oct 2024The world should ban US products like Google, and Apple for... moreBut they didn't ban Huawei because of that. That was just an excuse to tell the people and people are stupid, so they will believe everything they are told.

I would say it's too much already when google collect any data. The fact it collects data is already too much and should not exist in the first place.

The world should ban US products like Google, and Apple for stealing data and security concerns. Just like the banned Huawei

When I look at how integrated into every facet of the OS are Google's services it makes me wonder how well do these privacy protecting roms work. Doesn't it break system funcionality? What about third party apps?
If I felt safer about these, I'd likely give a try on my old phone. I'm not a fan of being spied on.

Of course they would refute It. There is never enough data to be collected.
