Huawei equipment was never a problem for the US until the Chinese economy is about to surpass them. They just don't like other nations getting ahead.

I am really wondering if it will have YouTube app on their new Harmony. If yes, what is the point of being banned from GMS? I have a Nova 9 SE phone, it has YouTube but no GMS. How come it can work without GMS but some other app don't work? Huawei said and still says that this phone is going to receive Harmony OS. When? The only reason I bought this phone was to make Watch Faces for GT3 Pro because I couldn't send the watch faces from my PC to the watch. So I started making watch faces, suddenly they said don't make watch faces if you are not living in China. I tried to sell the watch and the phone but nobody wants it...

Few other regimes have as much censorship. Do you seriously think that they wouldn’t use any of their tech for surveillance? Sadly it’s the way of the world now.

I hope Harmony can make it outside of China though, just to give us some competition.

The market desperately needs another OS. I wish some player come up with a new open source OS to compete with Google’s android. I’m sure the OEM’s are fed up and would like to break free from google and its limitations and would welcome anything fresh which gives them more freedom to integrate and optimise their hardware.

Hopefully, Huawei can pick up where Windows Phone has left and succeed from there. It's always great to have alternatives to the Android-iOS duopoly.

So, does anyone know what Harmony OS is actually based on?

Is it still based on Android the code of which just got heavily modified and hence doesn't qualify anymore as "Android"?
Still Android is based on Linux, is Harmony OS just a different variety of Linux variation, but different from Android?
Is ist maybe just an entirely different thing altogether?
