Apple's latest and greatest versus Samsung's ultimate offering - is there a winner?

''Somewhat of a blemish on the S23 Ultra's otherwise stellar display specsheet is that the panel is an 8-bit one, meaning just 16 million colors. That 'just' might read like a joke and for some this may be an academic argument, but a 10-bit panel with its 1 billion color gradations will be better at displaying smooth color gradients without introducing banding. How many people will notice it and how many will care are questions we can't answer, though. We're just here to point out this shortcoming, as there are phones out there with 1B color displays. ''

The fact that Samsung is pretty much winning here is hilarious. I am a Samsung user and would say they are NOT The best in the Android universe in any particular field, yet Samsung can compete with the latest iPhone, even though their phone is about to be replaced already.

Of course Samsung is the king. But better wait for S25 series. I have S24+ my sister has iPhone 15 Pro Max. My Samsung is miles better in most aspects. Especially screen and battery life.

Auguste, 09 Nov 2024The iPhone has a superior camera system overall (as DXOMARK... moreWell, as for the cameras, the Galaxy takes the win. Not only is it more versatile (as you said, but I don't think that charitable applies in this sense cause in objective sense, the Galaxy performs better than the IPhone when it comes to zoomed in shots as a result of their "charity"). I mean, GSMarena also gave us the pleasure of comparing both, and as you can see, it is better.
When it comes to the battery life, both are great. If anything, the iPhone takes the win, marginally though. But I can say for a fact that the S24 Ultra has a better battery life than the 15 pro max (proof? Check YouTube videos, channels like MrWhosetheboss) so GSMarena saying otherwise only makes people question the 16 series endurance tests they performed.
Better performance? Yes and no. In the cpu department, they take the win. When it comes to their GPU, the iPhone falls short so while the 16 Pro max may be able to handle day to day tasks perfectly, they just can't play games as good as the S24 ultra (mind you, games like Genshin Impact doesn't just cut it) which is kind of ironic since the iPhone supports more games than the Galaxy. On the other hand, the iPhone efficiency has a lot to do with their software, which is still a plus by the way.
You said the display is better, in what way if I may ask?
Also, while Apple's ecosystem may be second to none it's also important to note that OneUI isn't lacking in any way. The apple pay you use is covered too (Google Pay)

But he got all other devices from Apple like iPad, m1 MB air. He was also about to get the 15 pro max via trade-in but later undecided because of no significant difference between the two iPhones.

Selfie samples are not comparable. ISO40, F1.9 of iphone and galaxy 25U are two different scenes. How we can compare? Btw, I hold a S22U and somehow I feel iphone has better camera here in these comparison. S24U process too much and they look good in a mobile screen but in a laptop or monitor, it looses out to iphone 16U. I wish I could share the cropped/zoomed photos here!

Samsung looks as winner to me. But I wish there was a deeper camera comparison with autofocus speed, camera launch time. Images with some features like HDR on and off. Maybe RAW files comparison. Also it would be nice to have a scene comparison to APS-C or at least MFT image. Just to have an idea how much phones edits images in post processing and interprets some areas. As more people using their phones as the only camera they have, improoved reviews would benefit readers.

Too bad there's no MACRO photography test.

Luke, 09 Nov 2024No it was 15 series, the owner confirmed and it wasn't... morethe iPhone 13 Pro of a relative outlasted my S22 Ultra on a road trip, the iPhone 14 Pro Max and S23 Ultra of my relatives had similar levels of battery life.

What you are experiencing is either a defective phone and/or a phone that got nuked with updates. Apple phones have exceptional battery life for the first year and good battery life the next

The iPhone has a superior camera system overall (as DXOMARK also attests), far better battery life, and is a more powerful device. I’m not focused on benchmarks like AnTuTu or GeekBench; but the reality is that Apple’s SoCs are the most efficient, which is why MacBooks perform so well off the charger and why iPhones can get away with having relatively smaller batteries. Additionally, its display is superior, even if it doesn’t chase extremely high ppi counts (beyond 450ppi, the difference is negligible)—it outperforms that of Galaxy in other ways. This has been known for two or three years now, that Apple uses the more expensive Samsung m-made displays than Samsung uses on its own Galaxy devices.

Galaxy’s strengths are primarily its lower cost (disregarding MSRPs, Galaxy phones are generally more affordable than the competing iPhone each year—although the “Apple tax” tends to pay off eventually with higher resale value), camera versatility (if we are being charitable), the S Pen, and DeX Mode. However, the iPhone counters the latter with its ecosystem, Apple Pay (which I use daily), AppleCare, and more.

Simply put, the Galaxy Ultra and Pixel Pro no longer present a serious challenge to the iPhone Pro Max. Its closest competitors are now the high-end flagship phones from Chinese manufacturers.

Also friends with iPads (expensive with pens) and iPhone 14 series around are playing with us together quiet often. That's one of the reasons we aren't buying apples, we just see them in real life and they aren't appealing.

So idk how GSMArena runs those battery tests , for apple devices I don't trust those at all. For devices which we own here the GSMArena battery tests are more or less ok and matching what we see..
