But yeah, 4GB feels pretty bottlenecking nowadays. Considering how cheap LPDDR4X, there's no reason for companies to NOT put at least 6GB RAM on the base variant.

Also, to quote the GSMarena review:
"Going by benchmarks, the Galaxy A16 5G is clearly not starved for performance. However, from a more practical standpoint, we have to say that we don't particularly like the way our review unit is running One UI 6.1. There are plenty of slowdowns and even the occasional stutter. In our opinion, the 4GB of RAM is probably a bit too little for things to run smoothly."
In the end, A16 probably isn't the best device if you want to keep your phone for 6 years, even if the model supports 6 years of support.

It's always been 8/128 for the lowest configuration here. The only Samsung that has 4GB of RAM here is the lowest A0x series (even the A0xs series use 6GB RAM as the lowest configuration).

403 Forbidden, 20 Oct 2024If your A50 can, I don't think why the A16 5G can'... moreYou would be surprised how badly Samsung handles its lower tier phones. Every single Samsung phone I've seen below the A5x line stutters like it's a 2014 Android.
I know this is anecdotal and doesn't prove much, and maybe Samsung even fixed this problem recently, but it's still something to think about.
Also, the base model, which is what most people will get, has 4GB of RAM. This is barely enough even today. (This may not be as big an issue if it's like the A50, where the 4GB base model was only for India or whatever, and the rest of the world got 6GB RAM in the base model).
Also, further updates may prove too much for a phone of this caliber, like a 4GB laptop being updated to Windows 11. Perhaps the reason my A50 is still running smoothly is because it has not been updated to the latest OS.
Ah, but yeah, if you think about it, you can just not update the phone and leave the option open. Could be better for users, could be worse, I don't know. At the end of the day, it's more speculation on my part than anything else. It would be better for everyone involved if A16 did survive 6 years. I want it to. I just doubt it, is all.

my phone, mi a2 lite, still runs great. just replaced the battery. well 3gb ram *is* not enough for current standard (especially running the latest android) but the phone is run microg instead the bloated gms.
but yeah 4gb is not enough for full blown android and full packaged GMS.

but with only 4GB of RAM, I'm pretty sure the OS will lag as hell after couple of years.
and it will force most people to upgrade their phones.
