Inside your head, components have exactly same price year after year.

      1) Even if X200 pro was exactly equal to x100 pro, phone would be more expensive because of D9400.
      2) memory chips now cost more than 1 year ago
      3) the newer periscope

Price increase does not follow proportion unlike you think.
Losing imx989 is not enough to compensate what other upgrades cost.

Just because difference between A2 and A is more than difference between A3 and A2, does not mean first upgrade costs more than the second.

Both d9400 and 8g4 are said to be near 40% more than d9300 and 8g3.
That is surely at least $40.

Trading type1.0 for 1/1.28" does not save $40, $50 or $80 as you think.

As I have said before, new SoC could easily be $30, $40 , $50 more than previous.
You're not saving this money by reducing size of 1 camera.

"I hope this is just a slow year. I think the main issue is the fact that chinese brands are going for a uniform look this year, which is a new era for them. From curved back, front and sides to flat sides, mostly flat screens and slightly curved back. This seems to be "the new look" everyone's going for. Additionally i heard phones might be getting ultrasonic scanners too, so there's that. Then finally, there's the added cost of using better/improving Si/C battery technology. The first gen stuff only came out in top tier flagships like the Magic6 Pro, Magic V3, Mate XT Ultimate and also the X100 Ultra. Even though we're getting this tech in "lower" tier flagships, maybe the cost is staying the same. Maybe this is second gen Si/C battery too so that could've led to higher costs as well. I'm just speculating lol, i understand there's numerous costs but it just "seems" like a lackluster year to have price hikes on."

I understand all these points, but I do think there's a certain case to be made about the price hikes. The Find X7 Ultra and the Vivo X100 Ultra had HUGE changes to the cameras, the X7 Ultra had 2 telephotos with macro and 3 new sensors on the back, the X100 Ultra's 3 main sensors were new and the selfie cam was the best they had access to as well. Those phones didn't have a noticeable price hike. The X100 Ultra came with the largest telephoto cam AND a first gen Si/C battery as well. So yeah, there's that. My main issue is the removal of the 1 incher and then the increase of price.

Vivo has always been the first to release dimensity chips, i don't think there's gonna be any new huge cost to this that they didn't pay before. Zeiss changes could be a thing but I doubt it's that bad, if there were new negotiations, Vivo would've used the chance and plastered far more Zeiss stuff to make their investment worth it.

Whatever the case, we're all just speculating. They also might have super low costs due to uniform displays with other chinese brands, flat sides, same sensors, etc. and are jacking price to just get more profit. We may never know.

Are you going t to ask the price of R&D, design, manufacturing, UI creation & debugging amd security updates, bootloader creation, software hosting, wtc to price out the entire device??!!

1st your asking per unit NOT in bulk which is what Vivo & others do.

Man youre being a puppet following too many influencers commentary that doesnt really matter to help drive sales!

But what about from a production stand point?

                          +Early adoption of si/c batteries

+ D9400 co development / first to launch privilege And from what I understand Vivo's v3 isp chip is now directly incorporated into the d9400

                          + Potential Zeiss negotiation changes

Are there other variables that we aren't considering that Vivo needs to recoup costs for

Bill of materials isn't the only thing to think about

The X200 series looks very promising especially with it's price (yes,I know it will get more expensive once it becomes global) and maybe Vivo becomes one of the top 5 sellers globally with the V series and X series

Darth Caesium, 13 hours agoOh and it gets even worse when they downgraded the X200 Pro... moreyou're being too harsh. i never said this is a bad release or sc*mmy from vivo. The pricing is just a tad bad and makes me worry about the future, that's all.

I've seen a few videos from youtubers who talked about this and even read gsmarena's article and they never said it's better than the LYT-900 but it RIVALS the X100 Pro's IMX989.

case in point, from GSMarena's X200 Pro announcement article : "It's technically a step down from the 1-inch camera of the X100 Pro series, but vivo claims the new sensor rivals the bigger sensor in photo capture and surpasses it in video."

so, they only claimed to "rival" the IMX989. Be careful, these are marketing terms. They're saying rival, that could mean it's 80% of that 1 incher or 95% even, we may never know. And surpassing video capabilities is understandable, phone video is 80% software processing, iPhones are an excellent example of this.

Also, there IS evidence that suggests that LYT sensors are better. The main question is what EXACTLY makes them better but i have a few theories. Firstly, they're built on an advanced node so maybe that makes the camera magically better at taking photos? Secondly, since it is a more advanced sensor, there might be better algorithms and those algorithms could allow better photos by themselves like better quad bayer-ing and stuff. Finally, I think these sensors allow better processing capabilities, and since Vivo's basically the king of smartphone processing AND now that they have the V3+ chip over here, the phone may be taking phones actually 90-95% as good as the X100 Pro despite being so behind in terms of size.

And if you want to see why I came to this conclusion, watch LL Techview's video : "Vivo X100 Pro vs X100 Ultra - Vivo is the camera king!", for example at 19:00 minutes.

My main issue is the fact that even though this sensor is 1/1.28" and "advanced" all that jazz, it's not even f/1.4 in terms of aperture nor does this have variable aperture like the 14 Pro had lol, kinda weird but Vivo's processing MOGS Xiaomi so there's that

jiyen235, 14 hours ago>better screen, battery, design, video recording and pho... moreThis should come at no extra cost?

I knew people will stick the "no more 1" downgrad" formula and unsee all the other major upgrades lmao.
Even oppo is treating her pro poorly this year, oneplus is nothing special either, vivo is simply doing the best right now and we shall appreciate that

Djellal, 13 hours agoVivo improved almost everything comapred to the vivo x100 p... moreHaving a quad micro-curved display instead of a dual curved display doesn't cost them extra. You're right with the battery tech, but that's about it. They have increased their prices, so they better not start downgrading the main camera like that when it should be covering the extra costs from using the 200MP 85mm telephoto. Plus, part of the expense of that telephoto setup comes from the fact that the module was initially produced in limited quantities, so the prices should decrease from the increased economies of scale that we're having now (other companies are rumoured to use this setup as well).

Also, they still have that pathetic selfie camera setup with the annoyingly wide 20mm focal length (annoying in that its usefulness is somewhat limited compared to a more normal focal length) paired with a woefully inadequate 32MP sensor. They do all of this when their V40 series uses a Samsung ISOCELL JN1 sensor. Hell, Vivo is using that same sensor for the second year running for their flagship phones' ultrawides, so why not also use it on their selfie? The JN1 is such a widely used sensor that it's become very cheap, so I doubt it would cost Vivo anything more than a few more cents to use it.
