That is earlier report before they changed name, cpu was known as 8cx gen 4 and gpu as Adreno 740.

One interesting bit from latest Geekerwan video was the improvement in actual applications. In particular the Speedometer browser test results. Apple used to beat Qualcomm by almost twice the performance. But now the gap has closed almost completely and they are basically the same. This is a very exciting generation of Android SoCs.

GS88, 22 Oct 2024Would love to see that indeed, new chip with the perfomance... moreWould be a great option for compact flagships, given the low power consumption would mean less heat generation!
Seeing as Qualcomm already provide speed-binned chips at the fast end with a higher clock rate - first with the Plus chips, now the "for Galaxy" ones - surely it could launch some at the slower end when launching on a new process node that would presumably start with some lower yields out of the gate? A downclocked 8 Elite, even with a core or two missing, would probably still offer a lot to the average user, including and especially battery life...

As their favourite brand is losing, Geekbench will release a new version of their software that will put iPhone back on top. It won't be the first time they do this.
Meanwhile, Antutu has been consistent with their benchmark. With the goal post not moving, iPhones are losing very badly there.

Rhoodin, 21 Oct 2024Only 2 concerns. What's the power consumption of this ... moreThe Snapdragon® 8 Elite Mobile Platform represents the pinnacle of Snapdragon innovation—our industry-leading mobile platform.
With Qualcomm Oryon™ CPU debuting in our mobile roadmap, we are delivering unprecedented performance. This significance deserves a new, special, most premium variant of our leading 8 series—Snapdragon 8 Elite."
Cut and paste Qualcomm 1st paragraph
Imo Qualcomm has gotten the name completely wrong not 8! and most decidedly not use "elite" 9 Oryon or some other.
Snapdragon 8 is over populated Gen 1 to Gen 3 already. Qualcomm WILL(you read it first here not on Twitter!) release a less powerful version of this SoC, which is no longer "ELITE"? (e.g 8S Gen 3) And in 2025 the next 3nm Generation even MOORE Elite.
Oryon is to say a "design tool", this 2+6 SoC is an architecture used many times by Mediatek years ago earliest 7nm Soc. Oryon customer cores so there are NO Arm X925, A725, A525 Cortices
Both Mediatek and Qualcomm have scored higher Antutu, and multi-core Geekbench than Apple Soc so not a new achievement which Qualcomm emphasized.
I am excited by the Mediatek / Qualcomm H2H and have seen a slew of manufacturers set to use Qualcomm latest FLAGSHIP SoC, some even in their NON flagship phone models.
Benchmarks will follow however before these official are independently published... I personally believe Mediatek will still be number one, simply because as they have a lead, if the second place runner increases their speed the first place doesn’t have to match that increase. Mediatek also launch a PLUS version afterwards, whether this continues in the 3nm setting unknown possibly less likely
SoC Prices: There is no official unit price for either Qualcomm or Mediatek, the unique rumoured prices is from one unreliable source, on X weeks before either product was announced, or a phone released. My reservation Google it, if another independent person e.g Julian reports it, Verified FACTS ( it was only reported verbatim on this site) This one person has access to two sources of commercially sensitive data week before launch...nah double nah.)
Whoever does win the benchmark battle I await the Geekerwan speed test. On purely SoC price Qualcomm adopters will pay a premium, by how much? IDK., the difference over Mediatek .Qualcomm in the past may have justified a higher price as it was so far ahead. In 2023 behind, 2024 if it does regain the lead it will be marginal.
Like everyone else I waiting for the many tests to be run and find out the hype by these 2 companies is supported or tempered.
There are two topics or two elephants not in the room.
Samsung S25 may or may not adopt Qualcomm. Additionally there is 'rational' speculation use Dimensity 9400 due to Exynos 2500 low yields if indeed true?
Samsung on 31/10/24 is scheduled provide an update on it's own 3nm SoC and whether they are in having issues with yields so much so (this to me doesn't make any sense) Exynos 2500 sol use is in Z Fold6 not S25.
16/12/24: Unless Arm who have sued Qualcomm reach an agreement on Oryon ALA (Architecture Licensing Agreement) before 16/12/2024, a Federal Trial is scheduled to start in Delaware. A court case is the unknown variable and could have future implication.
I am excited that competition has bought resulted in these latest competing SoC, Qualcomm only dropped ball in the name. There were 2 changes, 3nm and Oryon to again use 8 boggles the mind. Elite why not just call it Apple?
