this soc is good for tablet and not for mobile form factor without good cooling system than current ones.

Looks really promising. But the disappointing thing is that samsung will disable all those snapdragon sound + lossless codecs on their flagships for some strange reason. So the audio improvements are not for samsung users.

HyperionBurn, 21 Oct 2024most important question is thermals secondly i wanna know ... moreOutside of benchmarks we'll probably never get any games that show off what 8 Elite is capable of in the RT department. There are maybe 3-5 games on Android that support RT and it's such a computationally expensive feature that their implementations are very very selective. War Thunder seems to only support RT shadows on your tank and MAYBE other tanks. It's undoubtedly impressive for a smartphone but it's incredibly hard to notice on such a small display, and because it's still so computationally expensive it makes devices that support it throttle way faster compared to just leaving it off. Qualcomm is really just boasting about this as an advertising tactic IMO. In reality, RT in mobile games doesn't really make sense for developers or players.

Anonymous, 22 Oct 2024Hopefully as cool as 8g2Highly unlikely, since there is no efficiency core and that 4x performance core run at 3.5 GHz. The juice may drain faster and temperature raise inevitably

Suppose to be the Gen 4.
But the number 4 is unpopular among Chinese.

This seems like the greatest leap in a very long time. Hopefully this SoC will be cool and able to handle sustained loads without dropping its performance.

Hopefully, it is a cool chip. I wonder if that single leak having boiling water temperature is caused by the heating or if it is subjected to that temperature but it still performs so well, or if it is purely an experiment.

It looks really great on paper. Being able to create custom cores is a great advantage over its competitors. I believe ARM brought a legal case against Qualcomm regarding the custom cores.

Ab, 21 Oct 2024So Qualcom have now jumped on the all big core train ... No... moreits not "all big cores", its just naming scheme. no, the architecture isnt homogenous, and yes, the cores are far larger than a decade ago. but then, a decade ago wasnt being printed on 3n nodes....
"performance" cores are still e-cores, design wise, and "prime" cores are what you'd regularly call "performance".
as a side note ffor the article, "industry leading 24mb l2"? are you soure its not l3? not only because apple already has 24mb of l2 but uh, afaik QC uses the more conventional 3 layer cache setup.

for obtaining 10000+ score in geekbench multicore, it only drew under 17watts compared to 18.4 watts for dimensity with 9300+ mc
the multicore performance per watt is even better than apple a18 pro and apple is using efficiency cores.
