gundulpacul, 30 Oct 2024Oiii chip worshipers! The article is about its camera featu... moreThese phones need powerful SoCs to achieve good software-level post processing that you would usually do on your laptop after you're done with shooting on your DSLR. The chipset has to be good because smartphones are meant to be AIO integrated solutions for general use.
That aside, the problem with Sharp's choice of SoC is NOT the SoC itself. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is a very capable chip, and there's no room to debate that. The problem here is the context in which Sharp chose this chipset. Being a camera phone focused primarily on photography, the 8s Gen 3 would've been fine IF Sony didn't exist. But Sony does exist, and they are bringing a better, flagship-level SoC to accompany their Camera hardware alongside a much better software experience while still hitting the same price target. In other words, this niche phone with a very specific focus on its cameras is competing in a market dominated by a goliath in the industry that not only has better brand recognition and marketability, but also has better specs to show for it. This Sharp device is extremely likely to be DOA because they're not offering better specs than Sony and they're not undercutting them on price either.
I'll leave it up to you to decide which one is objectively better. Sony, and its camera hardware along with its software AND warranty policies and all of that post-sale stuff while still delivering flagship level specs OR Sharp. Which one would you trust with a purchase in excess of $1200 USD?

Oiii chip worshipers! The article is about its camera feature. Do you think A7iii has the powerful chips? Chips are gimmick for camera. The only thing i know is about its ISP and sensor. What made iphone camera so special? Its because of the customised sensor by Sony mimicking A7 series. Once android world got the sensor, its sayonara for iphone s*ck3rs..

Anonymous, 30 Oct 2024Have you ever considered using your tiny brain and think ab... moreyou're so hurt like i told YOU something like that. Listen, Sony uses 1-inch type and 1/0.98" interchangeably. Look at their LYT-900 announcement site, they literally call it a 1 inch type. Secondly, the X100 Pro is recorded by GSMArena here as having a 1/0.98" sensor. Thirdly, in actual reviews of the 14 Ultra, X100 Ultra or the Find X7 Ultra, GSMArena never felt like talking about the size difference of the sensor but rather the aperture difference or the improved algorithm, why's that? You think the LYT-900 is some revolutionary sensor? It's just the same 1 incher, the IMX989, with different algorithms and maybe better production node idk, look at how normal IMX sensors are renamed to LYT ones yet offer little to no improvements comparatively.
There's no actual information out there to say that the IMX989 is actually smaller than the LYT-900. You seem to be hurt for no reason. Relax.

Anonymous, 30 Oct 2024What phones are coming with 8 Elite? And what is that Elite... morethe funny thing is, this is the 8 " S " gen 3. NOT the 8 Gen 3. You're getting a 2 year old chip (the 8 gen 2) when newer chips are coming. And by your logic Apple using the A16 Bionic on the iPhone 15 Plus was completely justified cus "what thing can't the A16 do?"
Yeah man, we should all be just using the 8+ Gen 1. 1500 dollar phones should be using such old stuff!

GSMArena's reporting is progressively becoming more and more ignorant and absurd. They really need to carefully look into their editorial team.

This is definitely a huge upgrade from previous Aquos Pro models. I personally don't mind not having the non-S Snapdragon 8 chips, as they're still crazy powerful.

Why are people complaining it's a SD 8s Gen 3.. It still gets the job done and can handle heavy games. People are so picky and expect so much from a brand that's not even doing well on the smartphone market. Like I know the price to spec ratio is bad but you aren't forced to buy this thing but that doesn't mean you trash talk it.

All those 1" flagsh... moreCorrect. 50 megapixel and 1.6 micrometer pixel size always means a slightly larger sensor area than 1" type sensors when it comes to 4:3 aspect ratio sensors. I already wrote tbis before, but gsmarena deletes approximately 50% of my posts without any reason.

Anonymous, 30 Oct 2024Have you ever considered using your tiny brain and think ab... moreJiyen235 is correct though.Jiyen was mentioning lyt-900 specifically being called 1 inch type in other GSMArena pages when it's actually 1/0.98.
You anonymous and Davidfr moved off topic.
Up till now.
There are ONLY two 1 inch type sensors used for phones, the old imx989 and the new lyt 900.
imx989 may be exactly 1/1 but trusted sources for it is scarce. But Jiyen235 wasn't referring to that. So stay on topic.
The link Jiyen235 posted does show that that 1/0.98 inch are also called 1 inch sensors (probably for convenience).
Go check GSMArena news and respective pages for Xiaomi 14 ultra, Oppo Find X ultra, Vivo X100 ultra. All have 1/0.98in but GSMarena just calls them 1 inch type.

At least we it's a triple camera setup now. Still wished it was a single camera with the 19mm equivalent. Or the add on 3x periscope zoom. Well this is fine.
But true $1300 for a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is nuts. At least it'll be efficient enough.

jiyen235, 29 Oct 2024https://www.sony-semicon.com/en/info/2023/2023061501.html ... moreHave you ever considered using your tiny brain and think about the possibility of GSMArena referring actual 1/1" sensors that a lot of (or should I say, "several") flagships have been used? 1/0.98" sensor is relatively new and like you said, it haven't been used a lot yet (or should I say "a few"). I know you just want to feel smart by pointing out people but dude let me tell you, doing such a thing won't make you look smart.

The camera system seems to be inspired from the Oppo Find X6 Pro.
