Also, AQUOS junk has a very large number of defective displays compared to other manufacturers.

No it's not larger than the 1-inch type sensor. It's exactly the same as the rest of them. Like xiaomi 14 ultra as a In the LYTIA’s “double-layer transistor pixel technology,” the first layer is a photodiode while the second is the transistor. The first layer helps detect light, and the second helps store and process light information. LYT900 1/0.98-type (16.384 mm diagonal) approx. 50-effective-megapixel

Another phone to prove that sensor size doesn't matter above 1/56" for general everyday usability unless you really want to prioritize real bokeh. I like it, but I don't see it as a valid selling point but hey if it can shoot video at more than ISO12,800 that'll be neat.

Anonymous, 29 Oct 2024Japanese companies do not like to work with cheap component... moreYet Sharp has been plagued with display issues for years and years.

Sharp and Sony aren't just good when it comes to quality control. They always seem to have some types of hardware-related issues, and bugs in software break features every now often.

They are no 'hidden gem' that people are trying to make them out to be. They have low sales numbers for a reason.

"Yes, it’s larger than the 1-inch type sensor we’ve seen in several flagships."
Wrong. All smartphone 4:3 1" type sensors actually are a tiny bit larger than a 1.0" type sensor.
A 1.0" type sensor has a crop factor of approximately 2.73 and has an area between approximately 120mm and 121mm².
All smartphone 1.0" type 4:3 sensors have an area between 128mm² and 129mm².

It's just marketing whether you write 1.0" or 0.98", etc. These numbers are meaningless anyway because 1.0", 0.98", etc are just the names of the sensor size type. It doesn't tell you how large the sensor really is. The diagonal of a 1.0" type sensor is NOT exactly three times as large as the diagonal of a 1/3" type sensor.

Sharp phones are always expensive, because if I am not wrong they use more in house components, and sometimes they make their flagships in Japan.

I kind of thought of Sharp as being on their way out after the R8, but this seems pretty competent, close enough to current flagships while still having the unique 240 Hz display. I'm just curious what made them go with the 8s Gen 3

                                        Hmm new leica leitz base.
