jiyen235, 29 Oct 2024why do japanese phones cost so much yet skimp out on stuff?... moreBecause everything in Japan cost more than SK or Cn.
Higher wages, less natural resources, stronger labor laws.
Nikon even closed factory in Japan to make cameras in SEA.

Even if product is assembled outside Japan, still all rest is done in Japan.
What keeps prices high.
You will never see in Japan , factories that work 14 or 16h / day while paying $300/month like in many other places in Asia.

At least Japanese phones have less rounded corners. Not a poor copy of iPhone design like all chinese devices this year.

      No , gsmarena.

What is called 1 inch and this 1/.098" are same thing.
      Same way some people use 1/2.55" or 1/2.6 , 1/2" or 1/1.95".

Shui8, 29 Oct 2024Leica collaboration with Xiaomi are at software level. With... moreeven if Sharp gets the same treatment, they have an inferior product overall.

And I thought the vivo X100 Ultra had a big camera bump

Interesting design, looks great, complete camera setup, shame on the battery size, and that chipset choice is strange for sure.

"the main 50.3MP camera has a massive 1/0.98” sensor inside. Yes, it’s larger than the 1-inch type sensor we’ve seen in several flagships."

                Reporting at it's finest!

To your knowledge GSM arena, both the Oppo find X7 Ultra, Vivo X100 Ultra and Xiaomi 15 Ultra also feature the Sony LYT 900 sensor which is 1/0.98” in size.

The specs for the Sony LYT 900 can be found on Sony's website:
                https://www.sony-semicon.com/en/info/2023/2023061501.html

Very expensive considering the chipset but I can imagine the battery life being PHENOMENAL with this setup.

Really wish North America could get this. We have Sharp products so they have the brand recognition already and the US used to have a thing for phones that look and function very well as cameras in the past. I could see it do well out here.

why do japanese phones cost so much yet skimp out on stuff?

I was about to praise this phone for having so much but it's using the 8s Gen 3 when phones with 8 Elite are coming out. Get a Find X7 Ultra and it'll demolish this phone. Get the Xiaomi 14 Ultra if you want the Leica vibe.

Giant sensor, but still smaller than p900. Or mft. Nothing giant here.

OK, this was unexpected! I thought they will only make a real flagship by next year. :)
What I would have seen to see is around a 5x optical zoom lens, but even the 2.8x is welcomed here!
