Samsung will reportedly release a Galaxy S25 Slim next year as a test for a potential S26 design

This will be an exercise in market research - how will consumers react to a slim phone?

Samsung is down bad in the innovation department

Anonymous, 31 Oct 2024you still behind with the news? do you think these 6000mah ... moreOnly one part of your statement is true. The new tech uses different minerals that enables slimmer batteries with higher capacities so the phones are not thicker or heavier.

The other part is 100% false. Samsung has been investing in Solid State batteries and they are on schedule to release them by 2026.

Its ironic you would call Samsung cheap because Silicon batteries are the more cost effective solution of the two so its companies like One Plus and Honor that have taken the cheaper route and that's fine because consumers get immediate benefits instead of future promises. But, they can do that because they don't have the same ambitious goals or expectations as Samsung. They're just trying to power mobiles and compete with Apple's class leading duration. Samsung will be powering EV's, wearables, mobiles(for their phones and others), monitors, signage and other electronics. It's a far more expensive investment because they had to find a solution to dendrites forming on SSB's. Also SSB's are more expensive to mass produce.

Reminds me of Galaxy Alpha. Didn't knew why they merged it into A series and made similar phones like M or J series. Alpha line would have something better like slim phones lineup

alcatraz, 01 Nov 2024User replaceable doesn't mean toolless right?A user should be able to replace batteries by themselves with standard tools or tools available free of charge. See e.g. below article what apple seems to be doing to try and get there:

The a55 is a brick and give galaxy users the only option of going to s series for a compact phone even the plus model that is similar in height is lighter than the a55!

The a55 is a brick and that's one of the reasons why I opted for a vanilla s series instead. It just easier to use for long sessions and pocket friendly. If Samsung don't want to reduce the size, they should provide another option for smaller devices in their midrange-budget series

They're one of those very few companies who actually have the resources and R&D stuff to Innovate or who can actually try innovative/different sort of phones not catering to the majority of the audience. Glad they're on the right road.

A55 is a total brick with its weight and thickness

I am a big supporter of having devices in a range of sizes and form factors so that customers have a choice. In recent years, smartphone dimensions have become mostly standardized with around 6.3-6.8" display and 8-9mm thickness(with a camera island).

We should have options.... display sizes starting from 5" to going up to maybe 7.5", and thickness starting from 6mm, going up to 10mm+ (with large battery packs).

First apple now samsung! Instead of making copies they should bring new unique designs like samsung used to do..for example they should bring the e model back compact and affordable

thicker phone actually because of camera sensor, bigger sensor needs longer focal length.

thinner phone equal to shitty camera.

My personal thinking is there should be only two models from S devices - big and small..
Same hardware with telephoto cams, one is 6.2inch screen and the second one would be 6.7/6.8inch screen
makes more sense than making S devices so much different in hardware

DarlingYext, 31 Oct 2024Oh, you mean the S3 Slim? Well yes that was very slim at al... moreYour after the size? I talked about the name. Use brain

I think a thin phone would be cool but I prefer lightweight before going thinner. To make them lightweight you have to use extremely low power components and optimized software.

163gr for an S20 is very exciting, considering I can get nearly 10h sot on OneUI5.1. Sure S23/S24 are still below 170gr but I'd rather use plastic/glass/aluminum than titanium/steel.

People who dream about big batteries seem to forget that power efficiency trumps battery size. You can have a brick and a small sleek device which both have the same SOT on one charge.

Furthermore, with a small battery you don't need 200W charging. AND if you have a 6000mAh battery even 100W charging feels slow. Perhaps even slower than what a smaller battery phone can do with 45W charging.
