05 November 2024
The phones are priced the same, however.

I am not sure how reliable these BoM estimates are. The estimates vary wildly depending on the analyst. For example, another analyst has estimated BoM for Iphone 16 Pro Max 256GB at $485.

Looking at the component prices mentioned in the article, I can understand the price difference in SoC, but iPhone and Pixel have very similar camera and display hardware (in fact, Pixel has a very small edge specifications-wise overall), so it is difficult to imagine how these components would be costing 50% higher for iPhone vis-a-vis Pixel.

Google has worse UI , worse SoC so why people should pay around the same money for an inferior product

Thing is, Pixels usually drop in price after a few months. Not like Samsung, though. I've seen Pixel 9 retail for ~ $ 830 in Europe. It's an OK price, considering we have to pay VAT. Regular iPhone 16 starts at $ 1000. So... quite a bit of difference.

The Pixel shouldn't be pitted against the iPhones. It's just not that good. The base Pixel at $600 and the Pro at $700 would work much better in its favour. At a thousand dollars category, the competition in android has lots of options so the Pixel Pro wouldn't find a lot of buyers.
Anyways the Pixel is an overrated phone in the first place. So not worth the flagship title

That is always expected as the pixel uses older fabrication for the chipset plus the iPhone uses a titanium body
Pixel wants to squeeze more profit margins they are getting greedy

I love Pixel's software, but the hardware is a joke. It's honestly ridiculous to charge as much as an iPhone for it when there are so many viable Android flagships or flagship killers that provide better specs at the same or lower price.

                      So who's greedier? Obviously Google.

and at that price point, anyone and their mom would get the iPhone instead.

You have to be a hard fanboy of Google to pay that much money for a Pixel, especially considering the iPhone is an option + a lot of other options in Android that are cheaper or better specced.

Even software support is moot bc Google always messes something up with Pixels and leaves a bad taste in mouth.

This is just hardware, development costs are not included of course.

Still extremely expensive beta phone. Especially because they never leave beta state, even on release.

11% difference (especially considering the price difference here) is not "much cheaper".
