Bravosixgoingdark, 10 Nov 2024Sony's been sleeping on its phone line for the past 6-... moreSony should release its phones much sooner, provide at least 7 years of software support, and upgrade its camera setup. The prices should be much lower. Sony acts as if it were a market leader when it is almost irrelevant. If you think about it, you may wonder what Sony wants to do. It's as if Sony didn't think at all.

It's in the book, it's in the internet. they have a history of copying everyone, not just phones, not just TVs, not just watches.. but hey, you're wrong in saying that I am wrong. There are tons of references about Sammy being a copycat company.

Huawei had a main camera with variable aperture in the Mate 50 Pro. Apple is years too late.

Apart from watches, TWS headphones and phones, they're actually quite great. Look at the TV market, they make awesome TVs and perhaps the best value OLED TV in the S90 series

Batteri Voltas, 09 Nov 2024Be prepared to get a thick phone then, or a tiny sensor. F... moreXiaomi's mix fold 4 is 4.6mm, I don't know the size of the camera bump but let's say 4mm, then the total thickness is the same as pixel 9, or in other words it could be flush with the pixel 9. The s23 is 7.6mm and camera bump is 1.4mm so it would only be half a mm thicker than pixel 9 if flush. If the main camera isn't the thickest camera then it could even be thinner. A slightly thicker small phone is ok anyway since it's still lighter and easier to hold and you need a thicker battery. Now we are getting thin phones in the next year there will be new techniques for making phones thinner, eg thinner screens. I hope someone uses the same new components instead to make a phone that's small, about 8.5mm thick, and with a flush back.

Batteri Voltas, 10 Nov 2024I'm not painting them as a hero, I was stating a fact.... morewhat's the tech timeline tho? you didn't answer that question. You're avoiding it again. I asked you what other things did everyone else "copy"?
I used to love Samsung to bits but don't act like Samsung was the first or best at everything and everyone else copied them or something. The only fact you stated was that they introduced a variable aperture and everyone else implemented it, they didn't just copy it, they innovated and made it better. Where's the "copy"?
You specifically painted techbros in a bad light saying that they only criticize samsung and didn't care when they removed it. You're acting like Xiaomi and others DIDN'T innovate on that variable aperture trend and got praise.
The Apple part is only true for normies and what's wrong with calling out Samsung for only doing something good again cus Apple did it?
You're either stupid or malicious. Everyone but Samsung is painted negatively.

Bravosixgoingdark, 10 Nov 2024Sony's been sleeping on its phone line for the past 6-... moreSaid friend of mine is rocking a 1 IV, I get that it has the furnace 8G1 in it, but I was very pleased with it when I used it
they were however considered a big player when they marketed properly and were somewhat competitive with the old Z Series before they got bitten by the SD810 curse and started slowly losing the market, just like HTC did.
They now have a phone with all the potential to be competitive again, but they're sleeping on it, to the point that a lot of people who aren't into tech will immediately say "wait, Sony is still making phones?"
And then there's them not bothering with giving us a follow-up to the Pro-I...

jiyen235, 10 Nov 2024yeah and that's cus the S20 Ultra had bigger problems ... moreI'm not painting them as a hero, I was stating a fact. They introduced it first, and the comment was mostly humorous about a lot of features they introduced a bit too early to be relevant, ending up being branded a gimmick, and giving up on them just before they actually found a use case and caught on.
People over here will just JUMP at someone who says anything remotely positive about Samsung in this website like they're on a mission.
And yes, the S20 Ultra was a pile of garbage, but no worse than the vanilla S20 whose back panel came off by itself with the amount of overheating. Back then I saw people who would buy S and Note phones literally buying the FE for the sake of having a snapdragon chip.

Batteri Voltas, 09 Nov 2024Anyone that defends anything coming from Samsung and isn... moreyeah and that's cus the S20 Ultra had bigger problems lol like autofocusing and inconsistent processing.
Also, why SHOULD have people REALLY cared about the old one? The aperture went from f/1.5 to 1/2.4 on a tiny 1/2.55" sensor. It actually didn't lead to basically any changes. I'm not bashing Samsung, I think it was great that they tried something so niche back then. My point is they tried this and then stopped doing it when their phones ACTUALLY needed the variable aperture, starting from the massive (by 2020 standards) 1/1.3" f/1.8 main cam they had back then.
They introduced a nice feature and then removed it when it was actually going to be usable. They're then going to bring it back after Apple do it so that they don't stay behind Apple. People rave about Xiaomi and Huawei's variable aperture because it actually brings results and it's far more difficult to have a continuous variable aperture, than a one stop switch AND these guys are doing it on far larger sensors. So you get more granular control on the aperture on a large sensor.
Samsung is indeed a copycat nowadays and only does stuff AFTER Apple does it. They used to be faster but now they're not.
I ask you, what techbros thought these features made the phone "unnecessarily expensive"? And what other innovations did samsung bring and then take away like this that Apple is doing now and/or other brands are "copying"? I called you a Samsung fanboy because you're painting Samsung as some sort of a hero whilst they're anything but.

Aierlan, 10 Nov 2024Xiaomi seems to be dropping the variable aperture. Gone fro... moredamn that sounds so sad.
This is a really cool feature, especially on 1 inchers. I dunno why manufacturers are shying away from this. I just wish they put it in, no need for software optimizations for the other apertures just use the widest one and let us use the other ones if we want to.
