PartTimePhoner, 11 Nov 2024The problem with today's phones is not their thickness... moreThe boxy design with flat panels makes the phone less vulnerable. In my opinion a boxy phone with grippy sides and back handles much better. I'm currently using a Huawei from 2020 with curving sides and flat screen. It doesn't handle well, I don't have big hand but still manage to touch the screen with my palm and thumb.
The best handling phone I owned was a 2012 Sony Xperia S. It had flat sides and a slightly bulging back.

Last time they wanted to make something slim first their products folded then they removed the bloved 3.5 mm headphone jack phones must be normal and sturdy no one wants a slim phone that bother palm of the hand and fingers while grabbed

google proved that you can add a ultra thin oled pannel on a device that is 5.1 mm(fold2), Down clock the chip and you have a winner. The a17 pro and snapdragon chips are crazy fast even a 20% down-clock is doable.

What they mean by volume issues? Apple should be able to use silicon carbon battery technology. Yeah we know Apple to produce far far more volume than other Chinese OEM but they also have a lot more money to invest. The real reason they can't is just that they want to keep maximise their profit.

Joshua, 11 Nov 2024Hopefully this won't lead to a situation like the Note... moreStill have my Note7 haha, refunded by Samsung 😬
That was my first Note, led to S8 and Note9 then Note10+ / S22U / S23 and I won't upgrade anymore. I hope that Samsung will do better.
Tired of this pricing with no expandable memory. IT SHOULD BE MANDATORY BY LAW.
Specially since low end have them but it starts disappearing too.

Just make 3 layer phones.
1st layer. Rear lid panel have it as motherboard.
2nd layer. Frame part of the phone have the battery and components that be placed on the motherboard and the screen connection plug or wire.
3rd layer. Is the screen that completes the sandwich

The problem with today's phones is not their thickness. It's the boxy design that Apple popularized. My A50 feels thinner than the S24, even though it isn't. Why? Because the back is curved at the sides to make the phone more comfortable to hold. And it works.

Phones are already slim. No need to release slimmer ones. They will bend like crazy.

Who even wants a slimmer phone?
Iphone 6 plus would bend, most Androids especially Samsung and Vivo would become hand warmers or worse, mini explosives.

"In short, there are two obstacles on the road to a thin phone: the motherboard and the battery."
That will only be a temporary problem for Samsung. Once they release solid state batteries(assuming they keep to the 2026 timeline), they won't have to compromise on the Slim's battery capacity or their foldables specs.

The thing is it might end well for Apple and it might not end well for Samsung.
Or
It might end well for Samsung and might not end well for Apple.
Or
It doesn't well for both of them 😐

Modern smartphones are several times more powerful than the mentioned relics.
And with great power comes great heating.

Anonymous, 11 Nov 2024They should ask Vivo how they did it a few years ago. They could also ask Apple how they did the iPhone 6, or Samsung how they did the Galaxy S6/Alpha. Maybe that will help Apple and Samsung, if they ask Apple and Samsung.

Yes the technology is just not there yet, we will have to wait far into the future for when thin phones are possible, maybe in around 2014-2016 it will be possible
