I like foldables, but I have to say that I don't see a lot of benefits with using one. The price is just too high for them compared to the equivalent slabs. I have both kinds of foldables right now, and there's no point of the clamshell style, you can argue that book style foldables provide some usability in multitasking, but at double the price and some drawbacks...

at present the foldable phone design & screen aspect is just not innovative & uninteresting. to me it just like 2 screen glued together. 8 believe a true foldable phone will be like samsung concept phone where it can roll out & in to expand the screen.

potato4k, 12 Nov 2024Since this has the context of the Chinese market, imo this ... moreAnd did you think about he possibility they just don't want foldables?
I myself am not a fan of foldables and I won't buy any and especially not for that price when they don't provide any real advantages for me over standard ones.
BTW, what about global foldable sales? The increase is more or less than 13.6% in China?

No surprise seeing as how their software is behind even Honor's. You can't charge those prices and expect people to use an OS that is just stretched for a bigger screen with 0 innovations. Their hardware is good, but that's it. Brands like Tecno can get away with it because they price them a lot lower

These Flip and Fold are FLOP devices due to very high impractical prices for the fragile screens. These devices though demanding very high prices, still fall short on camera and other specs compared to their flagships (Non-foldable ones). People won’t put such a huge money foldable. If they can get it cheaper than the non-foldable, they may try it out.

Anonymous, 12 Nov 2024Chinese manufacturer forget that main reason people buy chi... moreThis exactly.
Phones are still, and will always be, status symbols. Ain't nobody buying Vivo, Xiaomi or Oppo to flex. It's either Apple or Samsung.
Tech enthusiasts buy Chinese brands to get the latest and greatest, albeit buggy, at a cheaper price.
Chinese manufacturers need a reality check. Don't compete on price with Apple or Samsung. People would rather buy a premium trashcan from Apple, than a premium Oppo.

Foldables are just too expensive for average users. As long the manufacturers cannot match the price of foldables with regular slab phones, the demand for it will stay..

potato4k, 12 Nov 2024Since this has the context of the Chinese market, imo this ... moreFoldables are the most expensive smartphones you can buy and there has been a 13.6% growth in sales of foldables in the China market. How exactly does that indicate worsening economic conditions in China? Do you know the price of the Huawei Mate XT and that they can't produce enough to meet demand?

Not worth the investment.

Mix Fold less than 100.000.
Huawei sell millions while asking at least 50% more money.

Since this has the context of the Chinese market, imo this might be due to the worsening economic condition within China itself. Considering the cost of components and the expectations that foldables carry flagship features, maybe those players want to be on the sideline for now.
And yes, despite the seemingly growing market, the actual numbers is still fairly low, especially when you consider the cost.

Huawei in 2026: Fold your 55" TV and slide it in your pocket 🗿🗿💀😭

rizki1, 12 Nov 2024Serious? many of them have started making Fodable this year... moreChinese manufacturer forget that main reason people buy chinese brand because it is cheap.
This is just a moment of reality check.
Sadly, 99% of chinese phone user can only support chinese foldables by writing comment without actually buying the phone.

Majority of foldable user buy foldable phone not because they really need foldables, they actually buy it because it is a premium device with a samsung brand.
Regular people won't spend money for a device that less durable and cost twice as much as candy bar-type phone. So, any foldable device must have popular brand image to justify the expensive price.
