Google is allegedly merging Chrome OS into Android

The reason makes no sense to us, but maybe it will to you.

Pixel series supports display output out of the box and Google has been improving native Android desktop mode. Google's plan for this is to probably just make desktop mode on Pixel devices essentially ChromeOS running on a phone or tablet to possibly compete with DeX.

    Thanks but no thanks.

Microsoft/Windows might be anything you want to call it, but at least we are free to tweak it as we want without Microsoft pestering us about using their stuff or you can install Linux and be free to do whatever you want with it.

Try your hand at doing the same with Android/ChromeOS and getting rid of everything Google. It will probably break or stop working properly. I cant even fathom and imagine having to deal with ad-ridden apps on a desktop thanks to Google useless policies on their store.

The end of Fuschia OS 😱 Google like to killing their projects Stadia, Nexus Phone, Project Ara and other 😏

I recently tried to use some low power arm devices as desktop systems by installing armbian and I'll tell you, Android seems better to me in many ways (like superior hardware support). But what android needs is a proper desktop mode and some upgradability support.

If chrome os is the system that can run android apps and bring a proper desktop experience to hardware accelerated low power arm systems, I'm all for it.

Armbian might win but right now it's at an infancy stage. I can't even decode h264 for watching youtube, on an SoC that supports tons of codecs.

Another benefit of the merger is that it'll standardise the desktop mode you create when connecting a phone to a screen/kb/mouse. What if this will end up with everybody going from windows to android.
