Anonymous, 19 Nov 2024This only means Fuchsia OS is dead 😢Sadly, yes.
Since a few month now...
A few month after the launch of ChromeOS I said that Android and ChromeOS will merged.
Nobody believed me 😂
And now finally some reports, don't know if it's better or worse.

Chrome OS has always had an image problem and is not popular with the public, most don’t even know about it unlike Android, so I see why Google would want to do this. Basically it’s going to be iPadOS.

Good chrome os never made any sense. Both windows and macos were ages ahead. Consolidating to the one useful IP makes sense. Let's hope this merger will make Android more useful as a desktop os, finally. Chrome OS was inadvertently keeping it back for ages despite having the capacities to be a great desktop os as well. Say connecting my phone to a screen giving me a robust desktop experience (similar to what dex tried to do, but an actual desktop os instead)...

alcatraz, 19 Nov 2024I recently tried to use some low power arm devices as deskt... moreWell said. This is exactly what I am thinking of as well. With the CrowdStrike attack, Windows OS has lost the trust of consumers for the desktop/laptop form factor. But what is the alternative? Linux? Still not there as an alternative. So making Android as an alternative makes lot of sense.

I understand the alleged EVIL intention behind it....
Same way as Apple uses iOS/iPhone to promote Mac OS and other Apple Devices...
Google trying to get benefit of Android into Chrome OS. I don't know who uses Chrome OS. Even after so many years Chrome OS is failed far behind. And now they want to use Android and (mis)use Android users...for sake of Chrome :(

What if we get cheap laptops with android functionality? Especially that android now is capable of playing AAA windows games using mobox or winlator emulators, that would be a market changer.

Pixel series supports display output out of the box and Google has been improving native Android desktop mode. Google's plan for this is to probably just make desktop mode on Pixel devices essentially ChromeOS running on a phone or tablet to possibly compete with DeX.

Thanks but no thanks.
Microsoft/Windows might be anything you want to call it, but at least we are free to tweak it as we want without Microsoft pestering us about using their stuff or you can install Linux and be free to do whatever you want with it.
Try your hand at doing the same with Android/ChromeOS and getting rid of everything Google. It will probably break or stop working properly. I cant even fathom and imagine having to deal with ad-ridden apps on a desktop thanks to Google useless policies on their store.
