GregLu, 20 Nov 2024Ahhh sh!t, that's the same that went for my Xperia Z5 ... moreI had LG G2 mini and V30. Devices that can't be faulted. Handed the G2 mini to a friend after 2 years use who used it another 4 years! (popped in a new user replaceable battery for him) The V30 is still here as a wired audio source. Altough the software support was only 2 - 3 years, but hey almost nobody but apple offered more then that and i loved the OS!

GregLu, 20 Nov 2024Thanks for the report, it's really a problem to have f... moreIm afraid they already decided to leave the market and hence the bogus hardware as they don't give a fuuk.

mawlki, 20 Nov 2024Seems to be software support and hardware life are about 2 ... moreThanks for the report, it's really a problem to have failure like that since Sony is a good brand generally. I wonder how it goes RN since they are selling less and less, wonder too if they exit the market somehow given the sales and poor availibility / too much asked in regards of price.

sonyboi, 20 Nov 2024Agree. My Xperia 5 IV has both OLED and fingerprint hardwar... moreAhhh sh!t, that's the same that went for my Xperia Z5 Compact, 2 years and one month, screen stayed blank upon restart after update and Sony asked more than 200eur to repair and even a 50eur repair fee just to send it over 🤮
That was my last and I had severals before, that was only the one that I kept more than a year. Switched over Samsung S7 after that and tried LG (G3 & G4 mainly) during, that were good times.

sonyboi, 20 Nov 2024Agree. My Xperia 5 IV has both OLED and fingerprint hardwar... moreSeems to be software support and hardware life are about 2 years. In holland there are lots of failed camera buttons reported on the 1 V.

mawlki, 20 Nov 2024Seriously, only two years software support from here on? Su... moreAnd considering how Android version will change in the future, this promise ins kinda non sens in the end imo.
We'll see how it goes but I wonder if perhaps Samsung was in it with his preferred relationship with Google to attract consumer instead of other maker.
But at these price it should me mandatory to have more update, the hardware is sure capable to handle more version to come.

So promised video pro controls ?

mawlki, 20 Nov 2024Seriously, only two years software support from here on? Su... moreAgree. My Xperia 5 IV has both OLED and fingerprint hardware failures after just over two years, and 6 weeks beyond the warranty expiry.

I won't be buying one again. Switching to the Oppo X8 Pro, which will have a better camera than next year's Xperia flagship anyway.

It seems Sony has some kind of agreement with all the mobile manufacturers it supplies components to, to not directly compete with them, hence the price and so so performance.

The end user of Xperia is there squarely for collecting data on component performance, which is where Sony does actually profit.

They probably won't be making phones in 3 years time. The 5 series won't be returning, it will just be one high-end and low-end phone from here on - and neither competitive vs. other manufacturers.

Seriously, only two years software support from here on? Sure one can use it longer then that, but still. This support feels like a 100 dollar phone. What an Xperiance 🥹

Skipping this for 7 years Samsung support. I will have to live without the camera and jack of the Sony though.
