Motorola has had an impressive quarter, though.

The price for a for a major carrier cell phone plan here is the same if you take a free iPhone or if you don't, the price remains the same! They have 24-36 month device payoff plans where as long as you stay with them they pay off your phone for you for free, if you leave early you have to pay the rest of the phone price. If you do not take the free iPhone when you join you still pay the same monthly service fee.

Paying $80 a month for a 2 year plan totals $1,920, deducting the cost of the phone ($1,920 - $1,000) leaves $920 for telco charges. $920 over 24 months is $38 per month. The plan is equivalent to buying an iPhone 16 Pro and paying $38 a month for carrier charges only you end up with a locked phone and you can't change carrier or plan within the 24 months period (assuming there isn't just a single carrier in the location). These telcos prey on the financial illiterate.

HMD only has a 1% share and appears on the chart, while Google gets lumped with "others".

So does that mean that Google has less than 1%? I find that hard to believe given the Pixel 9 series was launched this quarter, Counterpoint's own numbers say Google's shipments increased 19% YoY, and Stat Counter actually showed a pretty big increase for Google's share in the US.

      There's something weird here...

If iPhones were sold similar to how they're sold in international markets or ones where most of the country uses PREPAID, iPhone would probably only make up 15% of the market share which is around that number it is for it globally.

I love the us market. I hope apple drowns out the rest of the competition and we can shit on how bad the chijese options are and only buy bad products at stupid prices because the politician's and elite's stocks go up everytime

I love hating on Chinese phones and then always buying them over the average American's options (apple, Google, samsung) (cause they just make sense, nothing more to be said)

I don’t know how they do things in your neck of the woods but round here cages aren’t something you can voluntarily enter in and out of.

Look you don’t think the iPhone meets your needs, fine, again just don’t get one. Evidently though, there are millions upon millions who feel it suits them pretty well, and I’d wager heavily that there are those among that very large number who are far more tech savvy than you.

As an American, the main reason iPhones are so popular is because most people buy their phones on contract from big carriers who offer deals like a free iPhone 16 Pro if you buy their phone plan. These deals are usually horrible because the plans are like $80 a month, but people just see free phone and think it’s worth the money. Sometimes carriers have these deals on Samsung phones, but most of Samsung and Motorola/Lenovo’s market share comes from cheaper carriers offering free budget phones as part of a plan. Since iPhones are so common, you’d think that people keep their phones for longer, but the average American only keeps their phones for 2 or 3 years because after their overpriced 2-3 year contract is up, carriers usually offer another free phone to keep people from realizing that $80 a month is crazy.
