As much as I'd like to see a new mobile OS, Harmony isn't it. It'll be interesting to see if the government promotes it, as that will make or break it.

Before it shipped on phones and tablets it was released for routers, watches and TVs.
The HarmonyOS kernel on those devices was this same pure HarmonyOS kernel that is shipping on HarmonyOS NEXT (but improved). Nothing at all to do with Android.
When HarmonyOS came to higher memory devices like phones and tablets, it shipped with a modified AOSP kernel. That was for app compatibility reasons and was logical.
Therfore, claiming HarmonyOS is a fork of Android is incorrect. From day 1 it was a multi-kernel system which uses appropriate kernels depending on the device.
At some point there will be a single, unified kernel. This was announced on the 2019 release roadmap so is nothing new.

Not just kernel nor OS.
It's a Kernel OS where it doesn't have GUI. Only plain ass texts that you need to type in. That's the pure Linux OS you can get. And I'm telling you, you don't even need to shut down your Linux. My Linux server is running that, and I never shut it down nor reboot it since 2016. Same goes with my UNIX system.

Yes and no. Linux is a kernel. People build OS with it (just like Debian, Ubuntu, Arch, Android, etc.) and call it "Linux OS" which means "OS based on Linux".

Anonymous, 28 Nov 20243 options is still low though.Not that low considering there are also only 3 OS (relevant) options when it comes to PC: Windows, MacOS, and Linux. There are BSD, Haiku, ReactOS, etc., but they're not really relevant and their market is less than 0,01%.

Last time we heard this from Huawei, it ended up being AOSP 10 under the hoods. It would be good if GSMArena team stopped shilling this company so much. Idk if there's money involved but it feels as poor as when The Verge starts praising the newest iPhone.

Huawei need to invest in flutter to make it Harmony OS next supported. If flutter can compile Harmony OS Next app then the OS native app will increase quickly.

China's population is almost two times the population of the US and EU combined. It's a big market and Huawei don't have to compete with Google in that market.
