Huawei commits to HarmonyOS Next for all 2025 devices, but only in China

28 November 2024
The company is still facing challenges for an overseas rollout.

I don't understand this move. They have a lot to lose (people stop buying their products) if it goes bad, but I'm not sure what do they have to gain in case it succeeds that even remotely makes up for the risk.

I'm very interested in HarmonyOS Next. Will pick up a HarmonyOS Next phone as my next phone.

I doubt they'll ever push for a worldwide launch, might as well retire from international markets.

Nokia failed to keep Symbian relevant, all of Microsoft's might wasn't enough to make Windows Phone a thing and Huawei will face the same destiny. We're (sadly) destined to have a duopoly.

The real thing here is HarmonyOS NEXT which is a different OS but lack apps. That's what I'd like to see going globally just to compete with other two, and we consumers would have more options to choose from.

Anonymous, 28 Nov 2024Of course only in China. Outside of China, it's dead a... moreBe a duopoly praiser. I'll always keep looking for any news about a 3rd competing OS, ALWAYS. And I'm willing to wait for it even if it means waiting for next decade.

Of course only in China. Outside of China, it's dead as fish out of the water. The whole world using Android and iOS. Yet, some minority have a loud voice talking here that wants it outside of China. Go live in China if you really want it so bad 🤦🏻‍♂️

They mentioned earlier that they need at least 500,000 of apps to compete globally, but now they're at 15,000 mark.

If it weren't for the problems posed by Google, huawei would be on the same level as Samsung and Apple.
