Mik3, 14 Dec 2024What happened to the removable batteries? They went the way of the reliable vehicles able to do 600Mm with nothing but oil changes, spark plugs, belts/chains and an occassional isopropyl solution in the fuel tank. Now we're going to need new roads every 6km.

Anonymous, 14 Dec 2024>The iPhone SE is due to be replaced by a newer and bett... moreAgreed. It's incredibly hard to find a sub 150g phone now. this was the phone I bought my niece when she was her birthday. I told her that looks isn't matter and it's a phone from 2022. and she's using it as her daily driver.

"Interestingly, while the UK left the EU in 2020, Apple will remove the Lightning-donning products from Northern Ireland, even if that's part of the UK."
Yes but, if you're not aware, Northern Ireland remained in the single market to avoid a necessary border with Ireland if they were to leave. So Northern Ireland continues to abide by single market rules, unlike the rest of the UK.
That's why.
Switzerland (and probably Norway) follow suit for the same reasons. While they're not part of the EU, they have deals with the EU to allow for the free movement of goods, which means compliance with EU regulations.

Ken Charles, 14 Dec 2024Why is it so hard for Apple to assemble USB-C on its device... moreRoyalty Fees.
Lightning cable have royalty fees while USB-C does not.
Even though Apple is one of the members of USB Implementers Forum.

Plus Apple will get a slight break whilst the EU think up some other reasons to fine them 🤷

>The iPhone SE is due to be replaced by a newer and better model next year anyway, so this thankfully isn't a huge loss.
That is your personal opinion. For fans of the classic iPhone design, the loss of the home button, rounded sides, small size and sub-150g weight is definitely not better. Personal opinion is not journalism.

I am no Apple fan also i am no fan of big american companies who cannot make their products at home but suport chinese slavery to do so.
Laty SE model was utter nightmare.
450 eur for a 4+64GB single camera and terrible specs and screen???
No thanks.

justasmile, 14 Dec 2024Nah, SE3 was far worse than 14.Technically yes, but it's a different product for different people entirely and it was a lot cheaper, plus there is the home button for those who want that, the iPhone 14 doesn't have that, neither does the 13 Pro, or the newest 16 series.

AnonD-1183726, 14 Dec 2024But why would on earth any regulatory desire a fragmentable... moreYou really can’t be serious with that statement.
The Lightning port and cables, especially the ones from Apple, are some of the flimsiest I have ever used - I’ve had like 8 Lightning cables (from Apple) break on my family over the course of the last 10 years simply for regular use and two cases where the connector simply broke for no apparent reason. When one of us switched over to Samsung which was 5 years ago, he didn't have any broken cables, ever. They just refuse to break because they’re sturdier.
Therefore, I see the EU forcing Apple to switch its phones to USB-C as one of the cases where Apple was forced to make actual progress. Sometimes there really isn’t another way.
