Qualcomm's next Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset could come early

Ok but what use is more GPU performance? Doesn’t the 8 Elite max out all mobile games already? Only benefit I could see is if the GPU gets better/bigger and then does not have to work at 100% utilization but 70%, it could save energy because it’s on a more efficient spot of the power curve. What I don’t see a point in is so-called future proofing because that does not work and never worked as we don’t have access to more advanced technology (like smaller node) that the future will have.

Kashyap03, 28 Dec 2024Battery life has become a liability these days 💀🗿Totally agree specially with Apple products each time I get an update the battery life has dropped dramatically down I only put my phone on charge 2 times per week as I don’t use it often it’s a great phone but I prefer my Samsung phones to apple anyway although I don’t charge my iPhone as often still battery capacity has dropped significantly it iPhone 15 pro max it says it’s 94% and even though before the latest update it says 98% and after that it’s gone down to 94% it’s really ridiculous for a very expensive phone like that……….????

THIS is what proper competition does, better products for everyone! Even though Qualcomm had a perfectly competent GPU before, Mediatek's immense offering meant that Qualcomm has something to prove now as they were always the ones with the best GPU in the business.
I hope it's a jump in efficiency and not just a bump in power haha but im pretty sure the latter is what's actually going to happen, these companies push their SoCs really hard for these huge numbers.

IAMKingMiracle, 28 Dec 2024I'd prefer if they stuck with MTK. The 8 Elite is know... moreWhat?
There is no claim anywhere that 8 Elite has thermal issues.
A recent comparison between 9400 and 8 Elite on X200 Pro mini and Xiaomi 15 showed that in fact that Dimensity 9400 pulls more power than 8 Elite and throttles more.
Either you don't know who is responsible for making thermal limits and management or you simply don't know what thermal throttling is.
8 Elite maintains a stable performance streak even at 44°C where 9400 drops about 25-30% performance at 42°C in the said video. This does not mean either one is better, the OEM making the phone and setting the CPU/GPU governor is responsible for when a device begins to limit clock speeds based on temperatures.
Keep in mind that these are smallest available phones for each SoC so don't go thinking either of them have thermal issues. This encourages bad interpretation.

If true this feels like a response to Dimensity 9400.
MediaTek made quite a competitive GPU with their latest flagship in terms of RAW performance and Qualcomm is gearing up to show what they didn't add to 8 Elite.
Chip makers are silently notorious for not RELEASING the best of what the team builds so they can take on these performance leaderboard in case someone starts to catch up. I'm speculating but a generational leap seems unlikely, especially this early after a recent launch. A focus on GPU reinforces this "theory" (if you wanna call it that) since 8 Elite is the first mobile SoC to pack dedicated 'video memory' besides total system RAM. 12 MB I think it was to reduce RAM calls.
If nothing else, this could be a new Snapdragon G3X Gen 3 SoC dedicated for gaming handhelds which would be a successor to G3X Gen 2. These usually keep the stock CPU clocks but increase the GPU clocks quite a bit. Devices like Ayaneo Pocket S and Razer Edge use these and they boast some serious GPU power.
Again all specifications on my part but a successor this early is unusual.

Hoping this also translates to having more flagship phones getting released globally before the end of year holidays.

I really don't care. Actually, I'll take it a step further and say it's a bad thing. The increased CPU and GPU benefits are nice on paper, but not at the cost expense and cannibalization of the final product, which is what inevitably happens when these chips get more powerful each year.
Give me the modem of the Snapdragon 8, they can keep the raw power of the CPU and GPU so my phone that's some room to breathe during the design process.

Tsmc's advanced(Higher yield) 4nm process was the main reason why 8 plus gen 1 scored far better than 8 gen 1(Samsung).

Isn't just the announced 8 Elite but was made for gaming purposes because it got more powerful performance than the normal 8 Elite?
